## Description

The Cuisinart Cook Central 3-in-1 Multicooker The MSC-600 Cuisinart Multicooker Create one-pot meals your family will love with the Cuisinart Cook Central 3-in-1 Multicooker. Three fully programmable cooking functions let you sauté vegetables, brown meats and slow cook your favorite comfort foods right in the unit. Skip the stovetop with combination cooking -- brown your ingredients in the unit and then simply switch to the slow cook function. Use the Cook Central to prep any aspect of your favorite dish. Select the steam function to prepare stuffed artichokes to start a gourmet meal or to create a healthful vegetable medley side dish. The Cook Central can even do dessert. With numerous recipes to choose from in the included booklet, the opportunities are endless! The Cook Central features Cuisinart’s brushed stainless steel housing and a 6-quart nonstick cooking pot that lets you brown or sauté directly in the unit. Once your meal is ready, the unit will automatically shift to Keep Warm mode so your meal is ready when you are. Serving your dish is easy -- just lift the pot out and take it to the table. Clean-up is a breeze with the Cook Central as the pot, steaming rack and glass lid are dishwasher-safe. Multi-FunctionalThe first step to creating your meal with the Cook Central is selecting the cooking function. Slow CookSlow cooking is perfect for foods that require long, slow simmering, such as soups, stocks, stews, and dried beans. This function is also ideal when cooking tougher and less expensive cuts of meat like shoulder and pot roast. The Slow Cook function has three temperature settings -- High, Low, and Simmer. For recipes that need to cook longer, use the Simmer and Low settings. When starting a dish later in the day, select the High setting. A 24-hour timer and automatic Keep Warm mode ensure your food is ready to eat when you are. Brown or sauté with temperatures up to 400 degrees F. Use the extra-large steaming rack to steam vegetables. Slow cook on your schedule with programmable settings. SteamSteaming is one of the healthiest methods of cooking. No butter or oil is required and fewer nutrients are lost in the steaming process. To steam anything from asparagus to shrimp, insert the included steaming rack and no more than 2 quarts of water or other liquid in the cooking pot and cover with the lid. Once steaming is complete, carefully remove food from the pot with a spoon, fork or tongs and enjoy. Brown/SautéUse the Brown/Sauté function as you would a skillet or sauté pan on the stovetop for a variety of recipes. Prepare a quickly sautéed skillet dish or brown food right in the pot as the first step of your family's favorite slow cooker recipe. You can use this function to reheat foods as well. Just use Brown/Sauté at 350 degrees F and stir until all ingredients are warmed through. Once you have chosen the cooking function that best fits your recipe, simply set the desired time and temperature, and then press Start. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: I am struggling with which size to purchase. We are a small family of three with limited cooking space but think the 4 qt. too small. Suggestions?**
A: While I do not own this particular one, I do own a couple of slow cooker crock-pots. One is 4qt. and the other is a 6qt. Here's the deal - once you get used to using a slow cooker, you will want the biggest one you can get(or fit on your counter-top). I haven't used my 4qt cooker for years, because you can always use less ingredients in a larger pot - but you can't fit 6qts. of ingredients into a 4qt. pot. I buy a load(at least 20lbs or better) of frozen boneless chicken breasts whenever they are on sale, then stack 'em in the deep freezer. About once or twice a month I will pull 4 or 5 pounds out put them into my crock ad some water, maybe some seasonings - and let them cook on low heat over-night. In the morning I have cooked boneless chicken breasts that I run under cold water to remove the fat(it all mostly cooks out) and put them into a large bowl or bucket. I then use a set of large bbq grill forks to shred them up for use in tacos, BBQ silders, etc. the cooked meat freezes well and can be thawed quickly in a microwave for just about anything you can think of. I also use it for making spaghetti sauce(which always seems to taste better if you let it cook slowly for a day or so). I prep up all my ingredients on one day, and actually mix everything into the pot the next day - then it sits for at least 8 hours on low heat with a toothpick under the lid. I check it every couple of hours(adding water if needed), once it is done to taste, I let it cool off, and then freeze it for later meals. Done this way, even fancy spaghetti recipes only take an hour to make. Once you get used to making meals with one, you will find that slow-cookers can do just about any meal, if you try.Get a BIG slow-cooker - you will not regret it(unless you can't fit it onto your counter).

**Q: most recipes say cook on low or high, how do you know what temp that is?**
A: On Slow Cook the manual states High is 212* and low is 200*. In my experience even on high this model doesn’t reach 200*.
If a recipe calls for slow cook on high, I use the roast functions set to 250*

**Q: Is this crock pot lead free?**
A: I have tried to call crockpot to ask this ? . I have one that is 50 yrs old. They sent me to a 3rd party that did not even make this plug in crockpot. I was told as I understood that yes I should get a new model but again they only made the stove top crocks.
I suspect if someone has an older model they should get a new one because the rules changed about lead in things a while back. I even had to get rid of some old plates I was using. I do not think I will purchase a crock pot due to the customer service and difficulty communicating with them.
when I finally got to talk to a supervisor she helped, I think , and as I understand it ,
I was told 100% no lead BUT was told fda and Calif prop 65 meets requirements for the stoneware.

**Q: What size is best for a slow cooker? The Cuisinart comes in several sizes.**
A: Ron, as many of the people responding to your question have done, I purchased the 6 Qt. as well. I often downsize my recipes to a serving for 2 or 3 and a great cook book for these recipes is America's Test Kitchen, "Cooking for Two, 2012". There are slow cooker recipes that work great in the larger slow cooker and come out just fine. I purchased this specific Cuisinart because of its oblong shape - makes it easy to cook meat or chicken on skewers. And, with the larger size you are prepared for the eventual times you want to cook a roast or larger meal. Hope this was helpful.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review
*by M***R on 3 February 2015*

I've owned a multitude of slow cookers and crockpots over the years. This is the first time I can say I love one! I've used this twice already, first for potato soup, browning the onions, etc. first then for a pork roast that I browned before slow cooking. All of its functions worked great. What I love about it: The browning function works perfectly and no extra skillet to clean! Because of the high sides, there was absolutely no splatter to clean up. The functionality. Browning can be set for a full range of temperatures, just like an electric frying pan. Slow cooking has settings for high, low, simmer and warm. You can specify a cooking time and it will automatically switch to warm at the end of the time. The insert's light weight. It's a pleasure to pour soup or a sauce from it instead of from a heavy ceramic crock. Easy to clean. The non-stick finish of the insert rinses clean. No need for cooking spray or scouring. The insert and lid are dishwasher safe. What I've learned so far: The first time I used it I'd just read the instruction book. The second time I used it, it kept shutting itself off before heating at all. First thought, it's already broken; second thought, check the instructions again. Sure enough, a duh moment! After selecting the desired function you need to press the Start button. It looks like it's on so this essential little step is easily overlooked. I wondered how much, if any, difference having the cooker already hot from browning would make in the slow cooking time. Turns out, quite a lot. My three pound roast should have been cooked at least an hour less than in my old crock pot. The large handles on the insert are a joy to use but they do take up extra cabinet space. I wish they'd made them fold down in some way to save space. This unit's a bit pricey but I think it's well worth it! I highly recommend it.
