She was a little disappointed when she opened it because it was folded in thirds in the packaging. When she opened it up, it still had creases in it and was not flat. When you put it on a metal surface, most of the creases go away, but it still would not lay perfectly flat. The corner is bent so that it will not lay flat even on the fridge, which is a little annoying but does not affect the functionality of it. The markers write very smoothly. It comes with a black and a red. This calendar is great for organizing a month at a time and it is magnetic, so you can easily move it from one metallic surface to the next instead of having a sticker that could damage walls and could not be reused.Bottom line: The product is great, but the shipping method left it somewhat damaged.
