I tried them with ankle socks and they didn’t keep the debris out as well and the rubbed pretty bad around the top where they are tight. Tall socks makes for a better gasket and keep the blisters off the back of your ankles. **Q: does it fit any shoes?** A: Doesn't exactly fit my New Balance, rubber strap doesn't go forward enough to completely fit in notch on underside of shoe. Doesn't affect my use, but I'm not trail running. Might impact trail running on downhills. **Q: Would these add any protection against snake bites...like would they be better than nothing?** A: Very little if any. You want snake gaitors for added protection against snake bites. Plus the fact that these cover suck a tiny portion of your lower leg means that even if they were snake bite proof, a bite just above the top of this gaitor would be unimpeded. **Q: I have the salmon quest 4d boots in a size mens 11, will these fit over the tops of the boots to help keep rocks out while hiking?** A: I wear them over my 5 ten hell cats to keep my ankles covered with my riding pants. They cover the ankle sock gap well. They fit that need for me. I would guess that they would cover a higher hiking boot. But not by a lot. If you are not sure. You could order them on the Amazon wardrobe like I did. If they don’t work send them back. It’s a great option on gear that you aren’t sure about. Order the ones you like, pick the best one that works for you and return the rest. For me, these work really, really well! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great gaiter with a few issues *by S***H on October 14, 2019* I’ve had two pairs and both have the same issues. For starters, the sizing is off. I’m 6’3” 185lbs and wear a size 13/14 shoe and have to use a size medium of the gaiter. If I use a large, the Velcro will not line up correctly and I cannot secure it around my ankle. The large is made for a very large ankle. The worst part, though, is the durability of the strap. Both pairs have had the strap split on me. I do OCR and these hold up for 4-5 races before I see them split. So, maybe a couple months before it happens. I don’t know how long the split strap will hold on before it actually breaks in half and no longer will connect beneath the show. Another issue is that thick mud will pull on the bottom strap enough that it will come out from beneath the shoe and just sit on the back of the shoe. I actually use another Velcro strap around the top of the gaiter to secure the top in place to keep the bottom strap from loosening up and coming off. Other than those issues, it’s a good gaiter. Improvements I would recommend are these: 1. another Velcro strap around the top to keep the gaiter in place, and 2. A clip or something at the bottom front of the gaiter that can connect to the laces of the shoes to keep the front of the gaiter connected to the shoe to cover the gap between the top of the laces and the gaiter, and 3.
