The instructions don’t say to move the chain from position 3 but i found the recommended measurement for my American standard to have less slack after I moved it to position 1. A needle nose pliers worked well to move the chain off of 3 and onto 1. I also found the flush handle a little easier to operate on position 1 vs 3. The tank released the same amount of water at both positions so I think the flush handle resistance is the only thing affected by the 3 positions in the float. **Q: need replacement flapper 7381193-200-0070A Are there other brands that fit also?** A: There are universal brands such as Korky but, in the past, I've tried them and they never seem to fit right. This was the first time I found the exact number to my flapper and it worked perfectly without having to fuss with it. Actually, this one is labeled Fluidmaster as was the one I replaced that came with the toilet. Since this one worked so well, I'd recommend getting it instead of the universal one. **Q: Have they improved the seal on this product?** A: The seal appears to be the same as on the original installed 10/14/2016. It lasted 4 years and 2 months before developing a slow leak. I never could identify a cause. There were no tears, no visible deposits, but it appeared to be less flexible. So I replaced it with a new identical flapper unit. The new one works fine. If it only lasts 4 years, I might try a different brand.
