I use it to strain herbs out of tinctures and such and it works great, I do double over the section I cut off as to catch more material but I think that's the case with all cheese cloths. The width of this cloth is probably only about 7 inches I would say but it is pretty long so sometimes can be hard to keep all of your material you are straining inside the cloth. So as I said before I double it over and sometimes fold it into a v shape increase the width. Also I have used one 3 foot section on 4 separate occasions and simply washed it well and left to dry and it is still holding up. Both are identical, and work well. I use it for draining the whey from yogurt for my fermenting: kvass, sauerkraut, pickles, and ginger drink. Easy ferments and ready in a few days. The cheesecloth washes out easily in the kitchen sink using a few drops of dish soap. I rinse well, and hang over the oven door handle to dry.
