Understandably, my main concern is reliability. I must be able to trust my system will perform without fail when needed. Yes, I can easily test for door and window openings and motion within protected areas but am somewhat unsure about my glass break sensors. In many home set-ups with large windows, protecting against glass-smash entries are critically important. Because of this, dependable glass break sensors are vital and part of a total security envelope. Because motion sensors are easy to test, I would prefer them but two things stop me from using them. (1) I prefer an intrusion alert before anybody actually enters my home. (2) Motion detectors are problematic with pets and roving house members. So, I employ glass break detectors in some areas. I have tested my Simplisafe glass break sensors using the recommended procedure and hand clap method and they always perform well. However, if I use a glass-smash sounds app on my phone at full volume the detections are hit or miss to say the least. Why is that? Now, I’ll admit that this may not be a true or fair assessment. Perhaps the smashing of a real plate glass window produces a sonic wave much more impactful than a recorded one from a tiny phone speaker. Or is it always active?** A: You can set it in the app to work or not work in ALL modes. Completely tunable. I even use it to test when the system is off to send emails/texts or secret alerts when anyone walks in a certain room even when the alarm is off. **Q: Does this work with the Gen 1 system or is there an older glass break sensor available for that? Installation- took maybe 2 minutes, maximum 5 minutes if you fully read the instructions. It is as simple as using your key pad to set up a new device then peeling off the sticky backing to stick to a wall. Quality- as expected when compared to other simplisafe devices. made of the same thick, white plastic material that is visually pleasing (also easy to blend into home setting). We have only had this for a few months and have not had to change the battery yet (will update when that day comes) BUT I am very happy with how little we have to change batteries on other simplisafe items so my hopes are high.
