Review: Works like a charm - It looks so scary and I was apprehensive about it at first, but after doing lots of research and trying it myself, it worked wonders on our German Shepherd Dog. Even using the dead ring (leash connected to both big rings at the same time, which is how you should start), it works perfectly and the prongs are rounded and safe, so they're not going to pierce anything or break the skin. It's SOOO much better and safer than when our dog was literally choking and gagging himself by pulling with all his (considerable) strength against his neck with a normal collar or slip collar and likely damaging his throat. He stopped pulling immediately, so the prongs became immediately irrelevant, anyway. Now he walks down the street like an angel and I get endless comments about what a great dog he is. It's also great for training around the house to not chew on or get into things he shouldn't. Be sure to research the proper way to fit a prong collar before using. There are sites and videos available that instruct you on this. It doesn't really come with any real instructions. A lot of people try to put it over a dog's head like a slip chain collar and that's totally wrong and causes it to hang loosely down by the shoulders. You have to disconnect a link (by squeezing) and put it on that way. Also, when you first get this, be sure to remove enough links to you get a snug fit so it stays high on the neck and not down by the shoulders. Other advice: if you have a dangerously aggressive dog, you should use a backup leash/collar just in case the prong collar ever gets disconnected somehow. It's more likely with the quick-release type prong collars which I wouldn't recommend for a really vicious dog. Edit: Forgot to mention that I received several recommendations for this particular brand of prong collar and I'm very happy with it. It is well made and solid and good for a fairly large dog. Very heavy gauge wire that's smooth and rounded tips, so it's definitely not going to hurt your dog or break the skin. Also, you can gradually wean your dog off the prong collar after it gets into the habit of walking properly by simply switching the leash between the prong collar and his normal collar. The normal collar is always on to hold any tags and so forth. If he starts pulling, it's very easy to switch back. You don't want to teach your dog that it's ok to pull with a normal collar. Once you have your dog properly retrained, you shouldn't really need the prong collar any more in most cases.
Review: Two words…GAME CHANGER!!! - I can’t recommend this collar enough! I have a 50‑pound hound/shepherd mix who used to pull like crazy, and I was honestly at my wit’s end. After some research, I tried the Herm Sprenger Chrome Plated Training Collar with Quick Release Snap (“Herm Sprenger Pet Supply Imports Chrome Plated Training Collar with Quick Release Snap for Dogs, Medium, 3.0mm, 21‑Inch”), and it completely changed our walks. I was nervous at first because prong collars sounded harsh, but once I learned how to fit and use it correctly, I realized it’s very humane. It applies even pressure around the neck—no choking, no pain—just calm, clear communication my dog instantly understood. Within a few walks, the difference was night and day. My dog went from dragging me down the street and pulling my arm “out of its socket” to walking nicely by my side. The German quality is outstanding—strong, good‑looking, and so far, rust‑free. I love the quick‑release feature for how easy it is to snap on or off (you MUST get this feature!), and adjusting the size is simple by adding or removing links. If your dog’s a puller, do yourself a favor and give this collar a try. Watch a quick tutorial online to learn proper use, and you’ll be amazed at how much calmer and more enjoyable your walks become. It’s truly an incredible value—you’ll look back and be so glad you made this purchase. A final note: I am not getting paid for this review; I just felt that I needed to write about this game changer!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: is this counterfeit? I ordered this and it came in a bag with a made in china label on it. I am returning it without even opening the bag**
A: If you’ve never had a springer you’ll know ! The difference I just returned 3 counterfeit ones ! Cheap garbage ... people that say it real but never used one should get a real one from an actual store and see the difference... also know how to place it on your dog and how tight it should be ! Important but nope bag from China it’s from China ! Sorry !

**Q: Does the 16 inch collar have quick release? Mine doesn't and I'm wondering if it's really Sprenger since some reviewers received counterfeits.**
A: We have 2 Sprengers and I made sure that they both have "Sprenger" stamped into the metal and the tag that was attached said Sprenger also. If it doesn't, send it back.

**Q: My dog's neck is 17 inches (Circumference). He's a 42 lb Bernedoodle, with curly hair. What is the right size collar and right size prongs to order?**
A: Typically, prong collars only come in even number measurements. So that would bump you up to the 18” X 3.0 MM. These prongs can be taken off to shorten it if needed or add to it if needed to get a proper fit for your dog.

**Q: Did anyone that ordered the M get a genuine Herm Sprenger?**
A: I also just looked all the reviews and no one actually got a guinuin herm Sprenger collar- these are aparently made in China

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A great, effective, and HUMANE tool for training dogs that pull!
*by A***E on July 14, 2011*

I love this collar, and my dog does too! We recently adopted a lab mix from a local shelter that was immensely over-crowded. She is a wonderful dog, but she was the WORST puller I have ever had the displeasure to walk! It got to the point where I caught myself not wanting to exercise her because it was so exhausting. My mother bought her a traditional choke collar (like this one Guardian Gear Choke Chain Dog Collar Med. Wt. 2.5mm 18 ), which only lead to her pulling harder and now CHOKING herself! Curious to test the collar, I put it around my upper arm and pulled really hard. The supposedly "humane" choke collar gave me a bruise and a sore arm for four days! THEN we tried a "Gentle Leader."( Gentle Leader Quick Release Head Collar, Medium, Royal Blue ) Do not be deceived by the name of this product. My dog HATED it. It would force her head to whip around in an unnatural way, and I became fearful of doing neck/spinal damage to my dog. Not only that, but because she pulled so hard, it would become ridiculously tight around her face, start cutting into her muzzle, and restrict panting (which any veterinarian will tell you is incredibly dangerous, especially in summer). Some people suggested a harness, but there was no way I was giving my already strong dog a way to drag me down the street! I would essentially be making her into an amateur sled dog, except I would be the sled. NO THANKS. I was at my wits' end. I have a few friends who are excellent dog trainers (one of whom owns a dog with several obedience titles) and I'd seen them all use prong collars. One of my friends pointed me to Herm Sprenger for their high quality collars (with beveled prong tips) and I COULDN'T be happier. I admit, I was a little hesitant because of the way the collars look, but let me tell you, they are FAR more comfortable for your dog. I did the same test I did with the choke collar, and there was no bruise, no pain, only a slight pressure around my arm. As far as the collar in action, it was like walking a whole new dog! BOTH my dog and I enjoyed our walk, and there was no pulling at all. People who say these collars are barbaric have clearly not done their research. I chose the appropriate collar for my dog's size and weight, fitted it properly (snug but not tight), put it on in the right place(high on the neck, just below the ears), and learned the difference between the "live" and "dead" rings. It doesn't put direct pressure on your dog's windpipe/trachea and is therefore a hundred times more comfortable. This prong collar works wonders. My dog and I are thrilled, and it's safe to say, there are many more walks in our future thanks to this collar.
