It will pick up a 4 x 6 File Card that has a small paper clip on it. It will pick up 2 sheets of 8 1/2 inch by 11 inch copy paper. I tried to pick up a file folder with a small & then a large paper clip. It could not lift that. These magnets are great. I sew and am in a wheel chair. Have them in every room. They are wonderful. I had used that one to teach my 7 year old grandson how to pull iron from sand. He got so excited that's all he did for about half an hour. When he came over a few months later he asked for the magnet but I couldn't find it. A couple of months ago when he came over (he's 9 now) I told him I bought a bunch of magnets. He started pulling more iron from the dirt and we fill 1/2 of a medicine bottle with it. I showed him how to make the iron "dance" and what happens when you try to put to like poles together. I learned something too. Sand usually has small pebbles.
