Why? He really needs extra calories.** A: We divide the sticks in half and give 1/2 am and 1/2pm. Perhaps they recommend 1 a day due to the extra calories. You can always ask your vet but I imagine 2 a day would be ok. I say let your senior kitty live his best life and enjoy his sticks :) **Q: Why would sheba put sugar in a treat for an obligate carnivore who should have no sugar ???** A: We certainly wouldn't include any ingredients that are unsafe for our pets. Sugar naturally occurs in fats and fruits, which obligate carnivores can digest and regularly enjoy. Being an obligate carnivore doesn't mean they can't process sugars, it means they require nutrients only found in meats. In this case, the sugar content interacts with the yeast and meat ingredients to make the treat overall more tasty. **Q: Are these completely grain free or just free from corn wheat and soy? One of our cats is very allergic to all grains** A: My cat has severe grain allergies and she does perfectly fine with these sticks.
