The strength of laminated wood compared to one piece wood depends very much on the glue used to bond the materials. The lamination of this cane looks well made and solid. I believe it is not likely to break during the fist few bouts with an assailant who is unarmed or similarly armed. Another good point of this cane is the hook handle is an integral part of the main body. It is not spliced on, therefore will never separate from the main body.
