I ordered before and received smaller plates.** A: They are 8.5" in diameter. Note that these are small plates. Not big enough for dinner. A six inch sub sandwich will completely fill the plate. **Q: Is an oven mitt needed for removal from a microwave?** A: not for us, but we use it mostly to reheat **Q: are these plates lead free** A: It is my understanding that everything made by Corning is lead free as of 2005. It is almost impossible to determine what year older corning ware/Corelle was manufactured.
