It is slightly bulky but I expected that. It comes with a large Ziplock type bag to store the cooling leg pad in while you put it in your freezer. The instructions say that it should be in the freezer for 6 hours for the entire leg cooling pad to be effective. The inside of the leg cooling pad is felt-type fabric. Very soft and you definitely feel the cold temp through the fabric but it doesn't feel wet, or soggy (compared to ice packs). It's nice for the initial shock of the cold compress. I would say this lasts about 20 minutes (as described in the booklet). I also know I wouldn't want to go over this time limit to avoid cold burns. You know when to remove it because the inside felt-fabric does get warm because of your body temperature. The outside is every easy to clean if you want too. Just grab a towel and wipe of the condensation but I don't do that. I just throw it in the bag and put it in the freezer. Overall, I am pleased with this purchase. This definitely has sped up the healing process. It does NOT fit around the entire leg (I'm 5'4" and 125), which in my case is fine since most of the pain is at the back of the leg. But, it does cover almost all of the length of the leg (again, YMMV, as I'm only 5'4"). The people who say that if you wanted to cover the full front and back of your leg are absolutely right. It's a little inconvenient that it takes about 6 hours for it to get really cold, but I find it stays therapeutically cold for a good 45 minutes and that is enough (for me) for it to be a great help. It stings if you put it on bare legs right out of the freezer, but it's not that bad, and I WANT the healing that comes from it being so cold. I would say using it at it's coldest, it takes about 15-20 minutes before all of the stinging is gone. It's still plenty cold after that, though. As for the reviewer who said it was hard to get back into the (sturdy) plastic freezer bag, what? Really? It folds up easily and easily fits inside the bag. If you don't fold it, you won't be able to get it back in the bag, but why would you do that? Overall, I'm really pleased with it.
