Review: This dust is very messy, but very effective! I have used it to stop garden pests, to keep vermin out of my cabins & sheds, to stop ant trails into my house, to dust cats & dogs to get rid of flea infestations, to dust environments to kill fleas, and even fed it to pets to kill intestinal parasites. It is wonderful stuff. It works by mechanically scraping the waxy coating off an insect. This makes it lose water rapidly, dehydrate and die. It's a mechanical effect so they cannot really ever develop a resistance to it, and the effect happens slowly, so the insects never learn to associate the powder with illness. They just crawl through it, and to them, it is like crawling through broken glass. If they scrape or clean it off themselves, they're only speeding up the effect. The only problem is handling it - it's messy, although it doesn't stain, is chemically inert, and is easy to wipe or wash off with water. The bag is sealed, but the internal zip-lock seal is not, so when you tear that opening, do it slowly or use scissors, and have the bag inside another, plastic bag to contain any puffs of powder that come out. I recommend a powder duster tool to use this, but you can also cut the corner of a zip-lock bag and use that to dispense the powder. A small spoon will also do the trick. Dust around the door jambs, behind fridges & stoves, and wherever else moisture or bugs are likely to congregate. The powder contains silica (diatom shells are made of it), but as I recall, this is not a reactive form of silica, so you cannot get silicosis from it. It is not dangerous like other silicates are, but it can cause mild respiratory irritation if you use it a lot. You can wear a mask when you dust it, or just do what I do and pull your shirt collar up to cover your nose. For normal use around the house, you probably won't need to do any of this. I just mention it for those who will be using this heavily and often. EDIT: I'd like to add some information. I did a LOT of research about whether food grade diatomaceous earth is dangerous. It is not! It is USDA approved as generally safe for people and pets. It's the amorphous and crystalline silica that's dangerous, and those are found in insecticide DE and filter medium DE, not food grade DE. Food grade DE is purified. You can use it with no worries. I cannot add links to a review, but you can try searching "food grade diatomaceous earth safe" or similar, to find a number of science papers.
Review: I did a LOT of research before I finally bought this as a solution to a flea problem when my kitty, (solely a house cat), got out one night and unfortunately brought fleas back in when I finally found him. I purchased it because it's harmless to pets and children, as long as you buy the food grade. I didn't put it outside around the perimeter of the house as I read that it doesn't work if it gets wet, which makes sense. It's odorless, and I've read that some people do use it in their gardens for pest control there. You would just need to reapply it more often because of moisture/rain, etc. It worked great in my home, and got rid of the fleas . . . my only issue was that I put down a little too much and it permanently left my vacuum cleaner caked with the stuff. The powder is so light that it was literally puffing out the side of the vacuum and had me coughing while trying to finish vacuuming it up. It's a great solution . . . just don't go crazy with it like I did. (I just can't stand bugs of any kind in the house)!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do you recommend or intend this product for human consumption?**
A: just to be clear - make sure you buy this Diatomaceous Earth product or another FOOD GRADE D.E. product. Not all D.E. products are food grade. I buy this one, even for use in the garden because it is safe if ingested.

**Q: How do you apply this to kitty without kicking up a dust cloud?**
A: I put a very small amount in the palms of my hands and gently massage into my huskies' fur. If you use a small amount and move slowly it keeps the dust down. Bonus - DE kills intestinal parasites so it's beneficial when pets groom their fur.

**Q: Does this eliminate ants? Specifically little “sugar” ants. How do you use?**
A: This area is infested with "crazy ants" aka piss ants-tiny things that run fast. I have used this in my house and outside. Putting it around and under my dog's food and water bowls have prevented them from ruining the food. I put it anywhere I see and ant trail. It has not eliminated the problem, but has helped.

**Q: Can this be ingested as a water additive?**
A: Yes I add 1-2 tablespoons per day to my coffee....tastes nasty in water. And have done so for the last 4 yrs. This has helped me with appetite management, digestive health, improved my skin and decreased joint pain. I also sprinkle some on my dog and cat's s food daily which helps to combat worms and fleas. Also has improved their coats. Hope this helps.

The quality of this DE is great. It’s smooth and not grainy at all. It comes with a large quantity that’ll last me for so long. Great value for fhe price. I use this to detox my body. You can add it to your smoothies or drink it on an empty stomach. It doesn’t have a strong smell It has so many great uses too aside from putting it in your drink. Highly recommend.
