The cord of the ear buds serve as the antenna for fm reception, and this works best when the maximal linear length is extended. I can receive all of the major local stations as well as many of the low powered community-oriented locals. The am reception is likewise good for all the locals as well as numerous regionals and some major nationals such as NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, St Louis, Detroit, New Orleans. Added pluses are a nice dial light feature, good sleep shutoff function, a surprisingly accurate clock, and five different adjustments for sound when playing music recorded on a microchip.
