It is a clear plastic square with a curved raised part so the shower curtain rod can be installed as before with a pressure fit against the plastic, but if it loosens a bit as it always does, there is the raised part below the rod, supporting it. It was quick and easy to install and although it's only been a few weeks, everything is staying up securely. Totally unobtrusive to look at, apparently effective in securing the rod, doesn't require tools or damage to the shower tiles. It's a win, win, win.
