I have all dark wood shelves and the white color stands out nicely. They are also pretty strong and hold up all my kids normal books and board books well without being TOO heavy that they can't move them if needed. The bookends are small, but that is what I was looking for! They are pretty adorable. They are currently helping keep 25+ books straight and neat on the bookshelves in my kids room.The packaging it came in was fine, but I was not thrilled that the two bookends were tied incredibly tight with a zip tie, so much so that you couldn't get anything under it to cut it. One of the bookends ended up getting a little scratched with my efforts to cut the dang zip tie off. The books just toppled over after setting them up, every time. Maybe they need grippers on the bottom. Some of the books that we were trying to hold are large children's board books, which could be the reason these did not hold. I am going to try using them on my bookshelves, when i can just use one end and hopefully they will work for those purposes.
