Three years is far beyond the life of the cartridge no matter how little wash you may be doing. Also, if you are using hot or warm water to wash instead of cold, that water does not enter the box so there is no water passing through it and then into the cartridge so there is nothing to make it turn color. **Q: What is the shelf life for unused filters?** A: Thank you for your question. The shelf life depends if the desiccant dryer is sealed really good for storage, and if it is stored in a high humidity environment or not.
