I have to take it away from her after awhile or she would chew on it all day long. She knows where I put it when I take it from her and after a few hours will go to the counter and cry for it! I don’t notice a bad smell at all, but I don’t have the greatest sense of smell either! The bone doesn’t splinter or leave a stain on the carpet. Chewing on it does not upset her stomach at all. These worked great when she was still teething and trying to chew on the furniture. Once I gave her one of these bones she stopped chewing on the furniture.
