About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words.DSLR Follow FocusHow did you come up with the idea for this product?Looking to make a video for a product idea, we were introduced to Jake Snowden, a diy videographer and film student. After conversations with Jake about how expensive and specialized film and video equipment has become and brainstorming diy solutions for the industry, we began to narrow-in on an idea for a simple follow focus. After several prototypes and iterations were 3-D printed and field tested, we sought start-up funding for production of injection molded parts. FocusShifter was successfully funded on KickStarter in 2012 and again with an improvement to the design (added counterbalance) in 2013 and 2016.What makes your product special?FocusShifter is unique in its simplicity. It is fast and easy to set-up and use and attaches directly to your DSLR camera lens. There is no need for rails or other equipment. Pretty self explanatory. Works as advertised. The marker board is gimmicky and I have no use for it. This in my opinion works better as a zoom puller then a focus puller. It is overpriced though for a plastic handle with a screw down the middle, attached to a plastic band. I feel this will break after much use also. The system tightens this band around your lens, if you over tighten it will snap and I just feel after time will snap either way just a lot of tension.I bought a real follow focus system from Hondo Garage and theirs does require 15mm rods but for the same $50 you get a whole lot more and a whole lot better quality. Hondo Garage's are all metal, very nice check em out. As far as this product goes, great for somebody that doesn't wanna deal with 15mm rod systems or for somebody that just needs a good zoom adjuster. I personally use this product with my Hondo Garage one. The combination on a shoulder rig is fantastic. I use this to pull zoom and my Hondo to pull focus. Great combo. (Looking back though, kind of wish I just got two Hondo Garage systems, sorry guys. This is my opinion though, for what I use it for two Hondo Garage systems would have been better) ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Simple solution to focus puller *by R***R on Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2020* Just got the focus shifter for video work on my DSLR. There are plenty of video tutorials on the Focus Shifter website, and video reviews on YouTube. It does what it's supposed to do but works best with staged shots. It takes a little time to assemble and set focus points. I would not use it for run and gun work. It doesn't work with all lenses either, so be sure to read the information on the Focus Shifter website before buying. The review from Tom Amos on YouTube is the best. I think it is pricey for what it is: low tech device for rack focusing. But, then again, you are on this page now because you want a simple, low cost solution to an expensive focus puller. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Poor (wo)man's Follow-Focus *by J***R on Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2013* I bought this knowing what it was: a poor (wo)man's follow-focus and as that, it passes the test. Could you make this yourself? Sure, but the way it is manufactured makes it look a little more professional than the ordinary DIY job. Mine came with black plastic clips, not small binder clips, which is an improvement over the item in the product photo. I like the idea of a dry eraser marker, but it would have been nice to find one on a lanyard for run and gun operation. It fits over my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM II, which is probably one of the main lenses I will use it on. i was using the jar opener but really needed something a little easier to work with something that helped me mark my spot. This does the trick. I can leave this on my lens and go from photo to video in an instant.The handle is nicely constructed, so, though it is glorified rubber band solution, I think the solid handle helps you get more exact movement.
