## Description

Intulon's 3d-printed tube coupler makes extending your existing portable air conditioner exhaust tube a quick and painless process. Fit and forget.

Review: lets you pull off any type of extension you can dream up - This coupler joins two plastic 5 inch portable ac hose vents perfectly. It could not work any better. I included a photo to help brainstorm ways for you to attack your own project. But I want to add some additional options for you to consider and hopefully throw your experience back to me. I put plywood over the frame in the photo after to cover the ducts. The first thing most people think when they get this far is they simply want to join two of these plastic hoses together but upon doing so one quickly realizes an array of issues that come up. #1) Insulation: Do you see in my photo how one appears to be insulated and the other is plastic? Well both are actually plastic. I put a 6 inch r8 insulation duct OVER the heat exhaust plastic duct. There is a lot of heat that comes out of these portable AC units and insulating it will help you immensely. In my example I placed R8 Insulated Flexible Duct with Metalized Jacket found on desertcart because my local Home Depot only carried up to an r6. Right behind the portable ac unit there is some air leakage which can be resolved by taking the excess duct pink ribers and wrapping over it between where the duct meets the portable ac and then use some plastic ties to secure it. This will grab a lot of air. If you prefer you can tape the back as well but remember taping isnt insulation so youd still want that insulation coat over the tape at this joining point. #2) Length affecting your fan/warrant and a solution for peace of mind: Often there will be no issue at all however manufacturers void your warranty if you actually tell them you are extending it. These things will give out one day like all ac units and its easy to blame something like this. You can see in my photo the intake was not insulated. The reason being I am considering to put an intake duct fan - which you can find here on desertcart - at the coupler point. So far I havent needed to do this but its the solution for peace of mind or if I end up needing to. You may think the first instinct is to connect the duct fan to the exhaust. Thats a valid thought if you connect it at the end of the duct. If you are connecting it at the meeting point in the residence then there can be a lot of insulation slippage because youd be splitting the point. It's still a worthwhile approach. A better solution to either would be to use an exhaust that kicks in automatically when it gets hot. Then you do not need to worry about fiddling with the duct fan on and off switch youd set up. If you want to go bonkers then you can run it through both out and intake but youd need long hoses to warrant it. #3) Where to vent it: In my case I didnt have a window nearby so I exhausted it up to the crawlspace and ran ducts to go straight outside the residence. I made sure each line was spread away from each other. You do not want both holes leading outside to be next to each other or youd be sucking in the exhaust and the whole system would be pointless. I originally considered to stuff a lot of insulation between the ducts in the box we created. But Im most interested in texting out its functionality over time before needing to over do anything. So far its worked great. The couplers were pivotal in this project because I wanted the tubing to reach through the ceiling joint. This way I can use the plastic tips to lock the insulation over it. I didnt want to lock it on the tubing portion bur rather the strong plastic ends that go on it.
Review: Great product! - If anyone knows the headache involved in trying to join two parts of the HVAC hose of an indoor A/C unit to give a lasting leakfree joint, it's me. The heat from the exhaust destroys the adhesive on duct tape or any other tape! A mechanical connection is the best solution. This product does just what it is supposed to do...wonderfully! Screw it on to both sides at the same time and voila! No leaks, no fuss! Great design! I recommend it.
