Mike** A: I have had this shady hat for 2 years and enjoy wearing it, It is both cool and light in weight. It appears that it is woven of a fibrous material that has been coated and then molded (or vice versa). The fibers are flat, too flat to be "straw" which would surely retain some of its round shape. It probably is some type of paper material made from plant fibers. Something that is a fine line between it and actual straw which itself is a plant material. Many hats are woven from grass which can also be used to make paper.
