I could never find a "large" mortar & pestle. I have 2 small ones but they aren't really usable. This is nice and heavy, porcelain and rubber non skid bottoms. Compared to the ones I've used in the past, this one is by far the best....UPDATE; 9/1/17 i used this item about three to four times since i purchased it and its already damaged. I used it today to crush a small pill. I brought this one just to update the old one I have and wow! I can't believe how it blew a hole right through it. Buyer Beware.
