I have been through about 6 of these and this is the only one that can chop and mix a variety of herbs, garlic whole cloves, onion, and do it fast with a strong motor. Been using it for months now and love it. The extra cups and tops are a big plus is you want to use it for more than one item. I can make a fantastic basil pesto for fish in seconds with this unit and it cleans up fast. Make your own teriyaki in seconds with fresh ginger, garlic and soy whatever and season to taste. The lid will come up and leak fluids if you put too much in or use hot items. So to fix this I put a piece of folded up paper towel between the outside cover and the top of the mixing chamber. You will be amazed at the uses you can find for this as it is so easy and fast to use. No more time minutely chopping anything or getting a large appliance dirty when you can get your onion and garlic pureed quickly and blended into your spaghetti sauce, gravy, etc. I write this as I amordering two more, one for a spare and one for my boat kitchen. Gets the Job Done. *by S***M on Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2017* I purchased this little machine to grind whole spices and to make chutneys and pastes (garlic-ginger, etc). For the most part it has not disappointed. In this price range your choices are limited. You can go with some other off-brand grinder (and there are several) or the Cuisinart SG-10. I started out buying the Cuisinart but promptly returned it. The Cuisinart is a one-trick pony and one of the poorest designed and constructed machines I've ever (briefly) owned. It is limited by one non-watertight hopper and grind-only blade. You use the cover as an on-switch, pressing down to activate the motor, but the cover won't fit with the (provided) lid on the hopper. That means dust everywhere as the cover on the Cuisinart model is not dust tight! In contrast, the Kitchen Highline SP-7412S comes with 2 hoppers, one for dry and wet applications. Both hoppers come with dust-tight lids and the cover (switch) is designed to fit over the hoppers with the lid on. The only difference I can see between the hoppers is in the blade, so I expect the dry (spice grinding) hopper to be watertight as well. The Kitchen Highline model employs a friction gear to couple the hopper blade to the motor base, a much more durable drive mechanism than that of the Cuisinart SG-10. The wet hopper comes with a star-shaped sharp chopping blade which develops a vortex and really gets you a nice paste (see photos). The dry hopper and blade will grind hard spices into a fine powder (see photos) without any issue. Why 4 stars instead of 5? The design is not perfect. The Kitchen Highline SP-7412S is a noisy bugger (think shaking pennies in a tin can!). The engineers did not add a noise dampener to the hoppers and so the minor vertical play in the blade really makes a racket. Secondly, the cord storage is a bad joke. Not only can you not wind the (fairly stiff) cord around that miniscule spool, the cord is unguided and interferes with the little rubber feet. I solved this issue with a dab of hot glue (see photos) and have not had any trouble. All in all, I recommend this machine. It's a good value for the money and does a nice job. If you can live with a little noise I think overall you will be pleased with it.
