## Description

Product description

Review: Really Good! - So far I love this serum. It goes under makeup very well and I've gotten compliments that my skin looks brighter. My skin feels smoother and my pores appear to be smaller. I have extremely sensitive skin and it does not cause Amy irritation or breakouts. I chose this brand because it scores 100/100 on the Yuka app! I'm very happy with my purchase!
Review: Holy grail serum, with natural acne-fighting and photoprotection ingredients, in a great formulation - I love vitamin c. I have used a thousand serums in my routine, but I’ve never been extremely happy with the results. Not even with the uber-famous (and uber-expensive) SkinCeuticals ferulic. The reason is that the form of vitamin they use (ascorbic acid) is unstable and sensitive to air/light, so they lose since day one the magic. Also, for extremely sensitive people, Ascorbic acid might be irritating/drying. But Still, vitamin c is an all-time star ingredient: protects skin from sun damage, repairs existing damage, and has amazing anti-aging properties (in vivo studies show reduction in wrinkles, dark spots, texture..) let aside the glow. So I decided to change and add the Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate variation. The effects are almost identical, it's gentle, AND most importantly, it's not prone to oxidation at all, so the shelf-life is much much longer. That’s how I found this little gem: a perfect formulated serum, both in ingredients, and PH. And after the first week, I was totally in love. Personally, I’m a fan of minimalist products in skincare, meaning the less unnecessary fillers, the better. This is why I love cerave, and this is also why I love mad Hippie: it has a short ingredient list, but ultra loaded with good stuff for the skin. The formula has a whopping 10% vitamin c(Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate-SAP). Maybe you think, why I use this instead of or regular C, backed by tons of research? According to science, SAP gets converted into ascorbic acid in the skin anyway. Also, multiple clinical trials have shown additional acne-fighting benefits that Ascorbic Acid does not. Short story, scientists know that lipid peroxidation (i.e. the oxidation of sebum) plays a MAJOR role in the development of acne, comedones and inflammation related to acne. Well, it turns out that SAP reduces sebum oxidation by up to 40% Also, it’s not irritation. Regular Ascorbic Acid requires an inherently low pH to be effective, so it can be irritating if your skin is not used to chemical exfoliation. In fact, over exfoliation leads to destroyed moisture barrier. It also has vitamin e, that works in combination with c for photo protection against UV rays (premature aging, and potential damage to DNA), inhibits tyrosinase thereby reducing dark spots. As SkinCeuticals, it also has ferulic, that works synergistically with C and E for photo protection by inhibiting free radical formation and absorbs UV radiation. The super humectant, Hyalyrinuc acid is also part of the formul,a a well-known humectant, as well as Aloe Vera( antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, lightening, and healing properties). Konjac Root Powder (It has a ton of vitamins and minerals including A, E, C, D, B, copper, magnesium, iron, niacin, zinc, folic acid etc) Grapefruit (Antioxidant, antifungal, and secondary preservative. May have natural and gentle exfoliating properties) Chamomile Extract (flavonoids for sensitive skin, and inhibits free radical synthesis, and i vasodilator (i.e. increases blood flow to skin), Clary Sage (antioxidant and antimicrobial). This serum is fantastic, also it has a very subtle scent, and has slippery texture that dries matte, non tacky at all (hello skinceuticals, ) So, if you are looking for a new addition to you routine, looking for extra hydration and photoprotecton and avoiding dryness, try this, it has totally changed my skin for good!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What PERCENTAGE of Vit C strength is the serum?**
A: I'm late seeing this, but I emailed the company in June asking this question and this is the reply they sent:"Thank you for your interest in Mad Hippie! The percentage of Vitamin C needed in skin care products varies depending on the form of Vitamin C used. We use a very stable and bioavailable form of vitamin C called sodium ascorbyl phosphate. Sodium ascorbyl phosphate is approximately twice as effective as L-ascorbic acid, the most commonly used form if Vitamin C used in skin care, which is not utilized as well by the skin. We use approximately a 10% concentration of sodium ascorbyl phosphate, which is equivalent to about a 20% concentration of L-ascorbic acid in its effectiveness. Most of the L-ascorbic acid, when applied, sits on the skin's surface without being absorbed and utilized and often causes irritation as a result. The primary difference is that sodium ascorbyl phosphate, the form of vitamin C that we use, has a salt attached to it, allowing it to penetrate the skin's lipid barrier and making it more bioavailable. This also makes it much more stable and less prone to oxidation, which is a huge problem with L-AA."It's a great serum and company!

**Q: how fresh is this product?**
A: I've had the opposite experience - when I ordered directly from Mad Hippie's website, the serum was thicker and colorless. I thought I would try to save a few bucks and order from the Amazon seller CB Select (I actually couldn't find the name of the seller from the product page, so assumed that I was buying from Mad Hippie via Amazon - maybe I just have no common sense, but the website layout could also be purposefully misleading), and when I got the bottle, the serum was runny and yellow. To be fair, this may be due to the packaging/shipping conditions, since I ordered this in the summer when it's very hot outside. However, I expected the product to be in better shape, especially because I'm going to be putting it on my face...

**Q: What is the PH?**
A: Sodium ascorbyl phosphate is a vitamin C derivative synthesized to deliver the same benefit as Ascorbic acid which naturally occurs at a pH of around 3.5 which is fairly acidic. Its acidity creates problems in emulsions. Emulsions are carriers like lotions and creams formulated to make products look and feel nice. The addition of a phosphate group to ascorbic acid, whether magnesium or sodium, raises the pH level it can survive in to greater than 7.

**Q: Can this be used in the undereye area?**
A: Yes...I use it around the whole eye except eyelid. Great product!!
