The Pitcher plant is a carnivorous bug eating plant. The botanical name for this plant is Sarracenia 'Purpurea Venosa' variety. These plants give off a nectar that attracts bugs to become its meal. They collect rain water in their pitchers to help aid in drowning bugs. They like to be kept moist with distilled water and bright light. It is recommended to place it on a small saucer with water in the saucer. We grow them in long fiber sphagnum peat moss to promote healthier growing conditions and to avoid root rot. You will receive one potted plant in a 2.5" pot. The plant you will receive will be similar to the one in the picture. You will receive a detailed care sheet. These plants are shipped with the soil and pot taped down to the box to keep the plant safe.

I wanted to wait a little while before reviewing this plant because after all it's a plant. When it first arrived I noticed it was very well packaged and a lot of care was taken to make sure the plant arrived safely. It had about 6 decent sized pitchers that were completely green. After planting them in my terrarium with a rather large Venus flytrap I filled each pitcher about 1/2 full with DISTILLED water and placed the terrarium in my bathroom under a small grow light. It's now been about 3 weeks and though it's hard to see in the picture since the flytrap is growing like crazy, the pitcher plant has a TON of new growth and the larger pitchers have developed purple veins on the leaves. They have even caught some bugs on their own that I didn't even know where in the house... It's really amazing how these plants work. Thanks bliss gardens for a great healthy plant!

I ordered one of these as part of a terrarium gift for Mother's Day. Next day, I decided I wanted one for myself too, so I ordered another. They both arrived today, and they are just beautiful! Shipping was fast (traveled halfway across the country in less than a week) and the product is exactly as pictured/described. I will say that one plant has fewer pitchers, but they are quite larger than the other plant, which has more pitchers, but are smaller. However, that is the great thing about anything in nature...no two creatures are alike! With the right care, I think these plants will thrive. Also, I was already able to give one of the plants its first live meal when a spider ran across the hallway. I dropped the spider in a pitcher, and the plant's design didn't allow the spider to escape. Now he is dinner! It's incredible how something so lovely can be so deadly. :)

Unique Terrarium idea!
It seems like terrarium kits are pretty popular now, but I thought this was a cool twist on it! We sit our new terrarium on the kitchen windowsill and the fruit flies that used to come out for a snack on dishes in the sink are now nowhere to be found, so it also does it's job.Probably the best feature that is not well stated is that it comes with a heat pack when shipping in cool weather. We also ordered another plant kit from another seller without a heat pack, and guess which one did not survive by the time it got here? Appreciate the thought that went into that small gesture.

Followed the directions planting them and used distilled water as directed to water them and lost the plants. Will be using the terrarium later with a different plant. Really disappointing.
