Review: No more sleeping pills - I didn't originally get this mattress expecting it to help me off the sleeping pills. Instead my intention was to transition from a $1,000 mattress onto the floor in the hopes that it would help my back (saving money on mattresses was also a bonus), but after sleeping on this for well over a year now I'm officially in love and I don't think I can give it up. I've been on some sort of sleeping aid, or at least needed some sort of sleep aid, since I can remember. As a teenager I was given medications to help me sleep and as an adult I was able to switch to melatonin, which was much safer since it's a natural supplement, but I was still dependent on it just to get to sleep. And even with it there would be nights when I'd lie awake and just have to accept the fact that I'd be getting very few hours of actual sleep, if any. I came across the idea of using a Japanese-style futon mattress by researching the health benefits of sleeping on the floor, originally for my back. I started out by laying a few comforters on the floor and decided to buy this mattress after finding that I could get a decent night's sleep like that, but knowing that I really needed something more substantial to start out with. I slept on this for a few months and at some point realized that I no longer needed the melatonin. I stopped taking it and haven't needed it since. To be honest, I can't say if this has actually helped my back or not. I'd say so, but with an office job sitting at a desk all day my back's pretty much a lost cause without regular visits to the chiropractor. What I can say is that my dreams are a lot more vivid than they used to be, I dream a lot more often (very nearly every night now, though I don't always remember them), I feel much more rested when I wake up, and I feel like I can breathe a lot better on this. I also love that I can just roll it up and prop it up in a corner out of the way. It's such a space-saver. It's also portable in the sense that I can stuff it into my small SUV and spending the night at a friend's place means all I need is enough space on their floor and I'm in my own bed, but it's not something you could take camping as it IS bulky. It did go a little flat, but that's actually perfect for me since I clearly need a LOT of support. If anything it's only gotten more comfortable as I've worn it down and there's still a good strong inch of concentrated cushion that keeps my hips from digging into the floor like they would otherwise as a side-sleeper. I wouldn't say it's for everyone, though. If you're overweight or arthritic then you'll definitely need a lot more cushion. But for me it worked out really well. So well that I just can't stand to sleep on a regular bed anymore. They're too soft. I've even ordered a twin-sized version of this to keep at my parents' place. And major props to this company because BOTH of these mattresses arrived a day before their earliest estimated delivery date. Plus I ordered the second during the Christmas season, so I'm very pleased. Especially since I had them ship it directly to my parents' place to free up space in my car for my passengers and was a little worried it would be there in time. Thanks guys! When my beloved bed begins to disintegrate from extensive use I will be looking to you for my next one. Edit: It's been a good 6+ years since I got this mattress and only now am I starting to feel the need for a new one, but it's still comfortable and I still love it! I've even gotten my boyfriend on board with it. We'll be upgrading to the queen size version soon.
Review: Good quality, particularly for price - I bought this product as an mattress alternative since I haven't owned a mattress or bed frame for years. I wanted to buy something that didn't demand a lot of space in my room, could be moved easily, yet was comfortable and firm. This fit the bill, at at the price, it couldn't be beat. I've taken good care of it, after two years and practically nightly use by my partner and I, we've noticed a few things: 1. The materials do wear down. The cotton has clumped near the ends of the mattress, and the middle has compressed in the areas where we sleep most consistently. It's not exactly uncomfortable, but is thinner a less comfortable than when it was newer. This is despite taking good care of it: Rolling it up every night, flipping it often, beating it, hanging it over railing in the sun, and using a cover for it (all things recommended for futon/Shikibuton mattresses). I even tired sleeping on just the edges in hopes of dispersing some of the clumped cotton. After 2 years of use, I guess for the price, this might be expected. 2. It's very comfortable. If I were to recommend this bed to someone, it would be those looking for something firm yet supportive. If you like squishy, softer sleeping surfaces this may not be for you. Buying the full size was adequate space for myself, 5'8" 145 female and my partner 5'9" 165 male. I am a back sleeper, he is a side sleeper, we both find it comfortable. It got tight when we adopted a doggo who takes up a large majority of the bed. Neither of us suffer from back pain, so we cannot attest to this helping alleviate such symptoms. 3. Supper convenient! If you like the idea of being able to roll up your bed and give yourself TONS more space in your room for activities, this is the way to go! Rolled up, with many pillows, and 2 blankets this occupies about 1.5 ft H by 1.5 ft W by 4.5ft L. Thus a tiny fraction of a single wall is occupied during the day, leaving room for dog, yoga, exercise, work, etc. It moves easily fitting it basically any car and is far less hassle than a mattress and frame. So if you enjoy minimalistic consumer products, or any of the aforementioned features I would recommend. The one down side, it wore out and we are about to invest in a more expensive traditional Shikibuton. So depending on your budget, how much effort you're willing to expend taking care of it, and the longevity of product you're seeking this could be an excellent option.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's a floor bed. Expect it to be a floor bed.
*by L***R on May 22, 2025*

It's a floor bed. If you expect the comfiest nights then you're sorely mistaken. But if you go into this expecting that it's going to be a little rough at first, it does get comfortable. Waited to write this review till I've slept on it for a few nights and honestly my roughest nights were the first few. I went from a memory foam mattress to this and it was a transitioning phase. I haven't been sore except the few times I've slept on my sides, and even then it wasn't bad I also enjoyed having the folding capabilities as I could have a moveable mini couch to sit or lay on. It's as I said, a floor bed. My only complaint is twin sized covers don't fit, but town sized flat sheets cover it so make of that what you will.
