Once you create the mpeg video file you can always edit your video files in another video editing application.Once you are done editing your video file you can always burn it to a DVD. **Q: Does it work for mini dv tapes** A: The tapes aren't the issue. This device takes analog video (NTSC) and makes it digital. The video on Mini-DV tapes is already digital but it is in a format (DV) that can be tricky getting onto a computer. Firewire is the only way I know of to make this transfer, so you'll need hardware for the connection and software to capture and store it. That would not be this product. Fortunately the website has a very helpful FAQ / troubleshooting section and a full users manual for download. I was saving old VHS videos to my computer within 45 minutes of opening the package.
