I have them placed on my desk book-ending my monitor in a room that is roughly 20 x 15. I use these in a house but they could easily work very nicely in an apartment. The speakers look and feel really nice. I bought the wood grain style and it compliments my desk. As far as sound goes, they are clean and crisp; a nice blend of highs and lows. I plan to buy a new subwoofer to give me some extra lows. I was using a 17 year old low-end Sony receiver to power these when I initially hooked these up. The sound was there but no punch or clarity. So I recently upgraded my receiver to a new Yamaha RX-V685 and I can really hear the difference. The new receiver puts out enough power at low volumes to produce a nice, clean sound. I've turned the volume up and they can take a nice bit of power but I think they shine at lower volumes.Overall, really nice speakers. I'm not disappointed in my purchase. Great for small spaces. Very clear and punchy. No distortion or interference. And they look really nice.Update 10-8-20:These Audioengine HDP6's are still kicking. I've had no issues with them since my purchase over a year ago. They now sound better since they've been broken in. I added some quality Sanus stands and that changed the sound quality completely. Once I moved them off of my desk and put them on the stands I could immediately tell a difference in the quality.
