Review: My Plants Love These Lights - The SunBlaster 13 Watt Grow Lamps worked great at providing additional light for my sun hungry succulents and houseplants. While I my plants generally get enough light throughout the day, I noticed some of my plants - particularly the succulents - started slowing significantly in growth. I tested moving my plants into a southern window and found my plants’ growth was at their best...unfortunately I only have so many southern facing windows and space near them. The SunBlaster grow lamps easily helped fill in my plant’s light needs without me having to bunch all my plants in a single area nor without me having to buy new lighting fixtures. I moved a few of my smaller plants under a lamp that’s in a room that gets some light, but not enough to allow something like succulents to thrive. The light is on for at least 6 hours in the fall months (roughly 6pm to midnight), and I found my plants are thriving there. My string of pearls and string of hearts are doing so well that I ended up putting another bulb in another lamp in my house so my peperomia and marble pothos can get more light - those plants are doing much better as well. The lightbulbs fit in standard light fixtures, provide ample cool lighting that plants grow towards, and seem to be long lasting and durable. My one complaint is that the lighting is very cool and sterile looking - but as long as my plants are happy and growing, I could really care less. These lights will not provide any warmth for your plants, so if you’re looking for something to keep your plants warm, you will need to look for a different bulb. Overall, these are a great set of grow lights that will help your plants grow better and won’t break your budget. They’re definitely worth trying out if you’re looking to add a little more light to your houseplants.
Review: Plants leaned toward the light within a couple hours - I've used other types of plant lights which all worked just fine. But these "Sun Blaster" plant lights seem to be a bit better. They produce very little heat and are very bright. Within only a couple of hours of use, the plants under the light were "reaching" for it, with stems and leaves all pointing toward the light. This is also true for one cactus I have which grew a long thin flimsy extension on top (shaped like a drinking straw cut in half), the extension also leaned in the direction of the light after several hours. I've only used the lights for a couple days so far, so I cannot comment on how long they last or how well they work in the long term. But one added bonus is that in one room in my home which gets almost no sunlight, the room feels brightened as if I were outside. The light color is brilliant bright white with a hint of blue (not yellow like the sun), much like lights in an office setting. I've had no issues so far, no crackling noises, no malfunctions. Just bright light that the plants and I seem to enjoy. I will write an addendum to this review only if I find issues with these lights; otherwise readers can assume my experience with these lights has been a positive one. Addendum: Above was written in December 2016, now it is June 2022. Amazingly, I still have the original bulbs from the 2016 purchase, used about 8 hours a day ever since the purchase (except subtract one year I did not grow anything in 2019) and the bulbs are still going strong. Especially useful to keep my smaller outdoor plants alive indoors through the winter and begin sprouts indoors before Spring (like tomatoes and peppers). I have gotten so much use out of these light bulbs, but they do need to be close to the plants which depend on them.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: can they work with dimmer switches?**
A: Some CFLs can and some cannot; I don't believe this particular kind will work with a dimmer switch. Look for the word "dimmable" on the packaging to find CFLs that will.

**Q: What is the recommended distance between light/bulb and plants?**
A: You can also try... Use different distances and see if your plant leans toward the light!

**Q: Can these bulbs be used on a lamp that says to use 60 watt Type A bulbs ? It is small desk lamp. - thanks !**
A: Yes, Type A is the standard base and the CFL is a 13w CFL (13w CFL=60w incandescent). 13wCFL is the largest watt you can use.

**Q: Does it have mercury inside?**
A: Part of my packaging was thrown away, but I did not see anywhere that these contain mercury. Not sure, but I thought they all had mercury....

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ My Plants Love These
*by E***E on November 25, 2019*

These bulbs are fantastic! I bought them for my plants, and run them pretty much all day. I have them in my ceiling fan, and another fixture in my room, and they’ve really helped in supplementing the horrible winter sun I get. All of my plants, even slower growing ones, all have tons of new growth since I’ve installed them. As someone who also buys a lot of plants, these lights have really helped my plants transition from a greenhouse space, to my home. There is a downside to these lights though. The color of them is very cool, and isn’t super great for humans. You will get use to the color, but it will take a while. I also wouldn’t use these as the only lights in your room, even if it was a plant room. It’s super harsh, and the less time you spend in the room with the lights on, the harder it will be to get use to them. I have a couple warm light bulbs in my ceiling fan, shining away from my plant area, and it really does help even out the lighting.
