Dollars (Dollar Book 2)

Cliffhanger.
I first read this book in 2017 after reading book 1. I never purchased the next book in this series and knowing there are 5 books to finish this story I know I'm not going to be continuing on. Even though book 2 was good and kept my interest, I'm not a fan of cliffhangers. This book started where book 1 ends. The MC's are headed to the H's boat after she is "rescued" from captivity. She is mentally, physically and emotionally messed up due to being abused for two years. The H is almost as messed up as she is. They make quite a pair. This book is good enough to read once if you're planning to buy all the books to finish this story.

Yup, I've already started the next book
I honestly can't get enough of Elder Prest and this book didn't quench my thirst at all!! Dollars only made me want more and more and more of him. More of his flaws... more of his broken... more of his utter beauty. He was a man that captivated and enthralled and I was his willing servant. Move over Pim cuz if you don't want his attentions, there are plenty of us who will gladly take your place. He was the epitome of calculated and gorgeous. A man not to mess with. A killer never to disrespect.I will admit that Pim pissed me off for pretty much the entire book. I'm aware that she's messed up. I can acknowledge the reasons why and that she has the right to heal (or not) in her own way and time. However, the fact that she did nothing for Prest... absolutely nothing... and yet she got so freaking much angered me. With a modicum of gratitude, no respect or civility, and very little charm, she had completely turned this wicked man into her puppet. Without a word, she had him bowing and scraping and coddling and she humbled him. I hated every single minute of it.A part of you was stolen, and you might never get that back. But what you will get in return is someone so much stronger than the rest of us. Someone who has lived damnation and survived.I was waiting for Pim to show me some strength. Every time Prest gave her the chance to show him the warrior she was, she failed. She got angry and raged at the wrong things and at the wrong person. And instead of letting that rage fuel her, she kept letting it defeat her. Where was her fight? Why was Prest the only one willing to go to bat for her? And seriously, he doesn't even know this girl and look at all he was doing and willing to do for her. I kept hoping he'd just drop her off somewhere, but I guess there wouldn't be much of a story then, huh? The one thing I had hoped for after reading Pennies finally happened at the end of the book and that aggravated me more. However, Winters always keeps me hooked so as mad as I am right now, you better believe I've already got Hundreds ready to go. Fingers crossed that Pim doesn't anger me further and that she finally reciprocates in a tangible way. Please let Prest get something for all his trouble. What the heck stops this chick from having a simple conversation???!!! She says he doesn't deserve her words. What the heck did she do to deserve all of the luxuries he's gifted her with? Survive horrors that he didn't even bestow upon her? Show some damn appreciation!!

Slow but still a great story.
As I read:At 29 percent, Pim not talking is becoming tiresome. I admired her strength in the first book because holding on to her silence was a victory over her cruel captor, in every way. In her new situation, however, her silence is not a victory over Elder. Instead, it is hindering communication and is working against her. She has questions and all signs point to the fact that Elder is willing to answer those questions if she will just voice them. While she is right to be weary of him, the kindness he has shown to her should cause her to reevaluate her tactics. Her silence is now a weakness.61 percent: this story is still engrossing and I want to continue reading to see how it all plays out. With that being said, just like the first novel, the pacing is slow with too much repetition. I'm skimming through the chapters now, skipping the inner angst of both characters because nothing new is being presented. Also, at this point, Pim's continued silence is not understableable, even taking her previous abuse into consideration.72 percent: I don't understand Pim's actions at this point. I won't spoil the book but why she chose to do what she did instead of just speak when Elder has asked her to speak more than anything else, is beyond me.The last 20 percent of the book is strong. Great pacing and character development. Ends with a powerful scene.

A bit slow
Elder walks into a blood bath and vows to destroy all involved while cursing himself for what they have done to Pim. His promise, to give her the final choice where her master is concerned, she needs to see the lights go out, to lay rest to the demon that has haunted her for years. Time is running out for Pim, can she survive and has Master A, finally won her self-invoked silence. Pim awakes and once more silence is her friend, as well as no one. Elder tries to coax her to talk, but Pim does not know if this is a trick and if he is her new master. Will he be worse than what she has already suffered? Elder is taken with the waif of the woman who now sails on his boat. He struggles with his darkness as it fights to surface and as he tries to control it, but will Pim be the one to push him to lose control? He shows her kindness and in return, he waits for her voice, but Pim believes him to have ulterior motives. With each hour of silence Elders patience is tested, is it only a matter of time, before he will break and show her the monster that lurks inside of him, to show her his blackened soul. Who will break first? I love Ms Winters and her writing style is powerful. Having said that, I found this book dragged, was a bit repetitive and only towards the last 15% of the book did the action pick up again. However, I am still invested as I want to know all the secrets and I think Elder has some deep-seated ones.

Wow!! Just wow!!
Oh my!!! Wow!!!!Be still my beating my heart...I have no words. I don't know what to say. Pepper has once again rendered me completely speechless when it comes to reading her powerful and all consuming words. This series, these characters there is no going back from them. You will fall I love and what a sweet tortuous love it is.Picking up where Pennies left off we are drawn back into Elder and Pim's world. A cold, ruthless world where nothing comes for free.Pim may have escaped the life she had with her master in Pennies but that doesn't mean she's free. Not by a long shot. This book is more about Pim's Road to recovery and the inner turmoil both her and Elder possess. Not as dark, but still equally raw, gripping and intense.Pim is trying to recover not only from the physical result of being at the hands of a ruthless master but also the physiological result.... 2 years of conditioning. 2 years of abuse. And now she's at the hands of a new captor. One who doesn't want her body, but her mind...Her voice...but will she give in to what he wants.Elder in an enigma. He is a 'no one' but at the same time everything. He stole Pim because she intrigued him. Now that he has her she has him rethinking everything. About her, about himself. She tests him, and pushes every single one of his buttons. But how long will he be able to keep his inner dragon in for before be bursts out??Does he keep her and run the risk of unravelling completely? Or does he send her away and forget about her??This book has left me reeling. I want more, no I NEED more!!! I'm not kidding when I say it's all-consuming. It's a book that as soon it it appears on your kindle you HAVE to dive in. You can't leave it.That is why Pepper is one of my top 3 authors. My queen of darkness. You don't just read the words on the pages, but you are completely transported into the characters worlds. You feel them and everything they go through. And you have no idea which direction she's going to take you in.I'm excited. By hell am I excited to see where this series is going. I'm looking forward to the torture I just know Pepper is going to put us through. But wow what sweet torture it's going to be!!!A definite, definite 5* from me!!!

If you love dark and deviant... Read the Dollars series!
I am fast becoming a huge fan of Pepper Winters and I am beginning to wish I had waited until the whole series was out before reading this because now I'm in book hell waiting for part 3! I loved book one and book two was even better.Whilst book one we get a detailed insight into the life that Pimlico (Tasmin) has been forced to live, book two concentrates more on Elder Prest as he tries to fight his attraction to Pim, an attraction he cannot understand nor comprehend. Pepper has a way with words that has you hurtling into hers books heart and soul and this is no exception. It captures you and does not let up until every secret is told. Elder is a very complex character. Whilst he is portrayed to be dark, dangerous, mysterious; a man no better that Master A it is obvious that he is running from a destructive past. He wants to push Pim away but he can't let her go. The pace of the book is unhurried and often frustrating as I am dying to know what has happened in Elders past.Told from a dual POV, Peppers writing is very poetic, she has such a way with words that is descriptive, informative, emotive and leaves you wanting more. This is an intricately woven story of two characters who will end up saving each other. The chemistry between Pim and Elder is palpable. After everything Pim has endured at the hands of Master A has seen her developed into a strong character. So many good quotes in the dialect between Pim and Elder that I have gone high light crazy. "What if I fall? By Oh my darling, what if you fly..." Elder is an enigma that I am looking forward to learning more about. I have devoured Pennies and Dollars in a matter of days. This series will consume me. If you like dark, deviant with secrets galore then you need to read the Dollar series. Addictive, encompassing and overall a fantastic read so far!

I am an addict and Dollar Books are my addiction!!!
“Thank you for reading” she writes at the end of her second book, like authors often do. But good lord in heaven Pepper Winters, Thank YOU for writing and thank YOU for writing a book that has become as significant as breathing for me and I’m sure for many book lovers out there.I am simply in awe of this series and I have been reading the Dollar Books non stop each day ever since discovering them a few nights ago, even with a crazy Work and Family schedule (currently starting book 3, day six!).I have read until sleep took over and the minute I open my eyes my hands search for my kindle. I am obsessed and I am hooked.Sorry but in my review you will simply find utmost love and praise for this marvellous author’s brilliance and nothing less. Before I continue to praise further I have to say that the plot of this series is outstanding (that goes without saying), the primary characters are explored (and continue to be explored) deeply and intensely, I simply adore them. Their characteristics, Pepper Winters has put them to pen so masterfully that you start to envision and embody them. The detail in the descriptions of locations, people, scenes objects and especially emotions are expressed so beautifully that if of you are not seeing this story you are either doing something wrong or your comprehension of the English language is poor. The dialogue is breathtaking!Dollars picks up exactly where Pennies left off. If the introductory book was sad, cruel, dark and sensational and left your heart and soul shredded and decimated then the second instalment does plenty to gently nurse your wounds just like Pim’s. However don’t confuse this for a calm and milder book. Because chapter after chapter Pepper has penned your demise by confusing the emotions and sentiments of the two protagonists and there is so much tension in the chapters that you’ll be left panting and screaming for Pim to finally talk and for Elder to just pick her up and hold her forever and never let her go. Like you are craving a release so badly but our amazing author just doesn’t give in.This book was everything I wanted a follow up to be and more. The plot becomes so very frustrating in a desperate and agonising way (not in a wasting time and dragging way at all), there is no repetition that series often rely upon and offer. The plot thickens and thickens and twists and turns and as was expected from Ms Winters’, she hooks your empathy and drags you from your compassion and throws you off the cliff in to the depths of a climax so intense that you will most definitely need time to catch and regain your breath which, you didn’t realise you were holding the entire time. Especially the last two chapters and the ending scene. Oh the ending scene.I know I was.I can say so much more but words fail me. However Pepper Winters has three more books worth of words (I believe) and I need to return to Pimlico and Elder’s world and get lost inside it again. So I am off to do that now. And my heart is skipping a beat just from the thought.

An amazing story that has not lost any of it's impact from the first book. Very impatient for the third one !
There is almost never a doubt, when reading a Pepper Winters book, that you are going to give it 5 stars!!The story this time, carrying straight on from 'Pennies', is a masterpiece of human emotion and suffering all entwined with trust issues and an emotion that is not yet spoken or acknowledged, but deeply felt by both conspirators. Elder and 'Pim' continue to work at their relationship though neither really know what that is or where it will go.It is some time since I have read a book that is so poignant and heart rending as this one. Pepper has truly hit the mark on this relationship with all of its confusions, misunderstandings and mistrust. Elder is a man with issues and pain but he is truly a man that all women would love to 'belong' to. Pim is confused by her fear of any man and the capabilities they have to hurt and harm her and she is determined that he will never 'own' herI do know that Pepper had difficulties writing this book as she honestly admitted on Facebook and unfortunately it shows. In a very unlikely manner for Pepper, there are a great many editing and grammatical errors in this book which spoiled my experience. As I edit for several other Indie authors, I'm afraid they jumped out at me. I hope that Pepper or her editor, address these issues as it truly does spoil the story for many readers. Because of this, I was tempted to drop a star rating but the story is so amazing that I decided to let it go this once.

BRILLIANT!
At last!! After reading Pennies I needed this book so much, and now I have read it I need the next book, Hundreds even more! I wish I could give it more than 5 stars as it deserves more!It started where book 1 finished and the story just got better. I don't want to say much about it as it's one you really have to read yourself. I was sucked in from the first sentence and did not or should I say COULD not put it down until the end.I love the characters and I'm loving the relationship that's growing between Elder and Pim. I just hope with all my heart it continues to grow. In book 1 Elder stole Pim from the existence she lived of which she was tortured, used and abused to the point of near death, and this is where the story continues...So I urge you to one click Pennies if you haven't already and get started on this already fantastic series! I think this will definitely be going down as one of my favourite series!A Book Lover's Emporium
