The plastic shell could just as well be a ball of caulking **Q: Will this work with just my multiple ring camera set up without the ring alarm system? i just want a alert my gate was opened, then i'llcheck cameras.** A: You have to connect it to the Ring Bridge first and foremost. As far as if you need the ring alarm or if you have the Ring app and use it to monitor your cameras, depending on your device and OS if you can add the Bridge to it (somewhere on the top left selector, look for add an item) you should be able to add it to your device via the app but again you need the Bridge.
