Hope this helps!Red Devil **Q: how does this product work on fiberglass tubs?** A: I don't know because we used it on a porcelain covered steel tub. However, the walls were a composite fiberglass sheeting and so far it is sticking to both very well. Even if it gives me 3 years its worth it -- for so little cost I would replace it in a minute. If you are going to install it, wash down the area with a liquid cleaner, then wipe it with alcohol. It needs to be absolutely clean for the product to stick. **Q: can you put it over an existing thin caulk?** A: You shouldn't. Remove as much existing caulk as possible (I used a flat blade screwdriver). That way the new strip will adhere properly and have no ridges showing. **Q: Is it essential to completely remove old caulk before using it?** A: By using this product, you are attempting to seal out water from the underlying tile/shower floor base /tub or sink. It would work best by having the two surfaces prepared cleanly to get the best, tightest seal. Otherwise you might get water trapped under the caulk strip and then mold will grow. So yes, do it right and remove all the old caulk first. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great stuff.....so far *by T***D on April 2, 2012* In the basement bathroom, I removed old damaged carpet, then had the floor ceramic tiled and the old wood baseboards replaced with vinyl ones. The reason was for easier cleanup and less damage when we occasionally flood. The workers did such a lousy job adhering the vinyl baseboard. There were numerous small gaps between the floor and the vinyl.I used this to caulk strip the entire vinyl baseboard to the floor. I followed the instruction to the letter, including using alcohol to pre-clean the area. The stuff really adheres very well. Very solid. Now, the floor looks water tight. Certainly able to withstand a couple inches of sewer water, without too much damage and mold buildup.Also, I used to caulk the bathtub. It's sealed tight and looks great, too. This strip works well to reinforce surround tubs, too. The nice thing about the strip, the center is bendable. This makes it easy to push the caulk strip securely into the sharp edges, where the wall and tub meet. It lies flush to whatever is being caulked. No mess, cleanup or fumes. It certainly looks more solid than regular caulk. It's relatively expensive. I had to get 7 rolls to do the floor, but if this holds down the mold and mildew, it's worth it. I will update on longevity.Tips: -Area need to be completely, clean, dry and free of moisture, including the moisture from alcohol pre treatment.- Pressing very hard after application is key. The entire area stripped needs a good hard press. I used a dry cloth for good traction, and ran my hand over every area of the newly applied strip.- Only untape about 6 inches of caulk at one tme....just continually untape protective paper backing while actually applying. Remove excess old caulk before starting. That old caulk holds a lot of moisture.Fellow reviewers suggested heating caulk stip with a hot blow dryer and completely sealing bottom half of strip, before sealing the top half. I also used regular waterproof caulk to seal and reinforce all egdes of the strip that I cut..... in corners of tub, at the front edge, etc. Directions recommend not using tub for 8 hours after applying....I waited 24 hours before using the tub.Lastly, I think you'll have better success with this wider width. I read the reviews for the 7/8" variety of this product, and most were negative. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy Peasy *by N***I on September 20, 2025* No caulk needed. Just peel and stick. Easy peasy. Love it! ### ⭐ Very sticky, which is part of the problem *by B***P on November 7, 2022* From the very start, this product was not easy to install. The paper was very difficult to get off the adhesive, resulting in some pieces staying attached and the adhesive stretching and balling up (and getting stuck on my fingers, which then transferred to the front of the strips...). A a result of the issues with removing the backing, the strip didn't lay flat against the tub/wall, which is obviously important to keep water out...Another problem is if you have the very common tile/grout walls, the strip will leave small gaps over the grout lines between each tile, again allowing water where it isn't supposed to be. I tried caulking over the top edge, but after a short time it would pop off again.So, I gave up after a month or so and ripped it all out and used normal caulk. The removal was pretty easy, just pry up an end and pull.
