Freeze dried salmon is a Japanese, Chinese and Philippine based product. They use these salmon cubes in cooking and soups. Its just not an "American" product. Our particular salmon cubes are made to meet the FDA standards for Human Consumption. The facility that we use to freeze dry the salmon cubes is an FDA certified packer. This means that they produce products that are used for human consumption and those products must all meet or surpass the standards and testing protocols that the FDA requires. Many tests are performed prior to releasing this to the pet market. The fact that a US based company does not want to make these types of products does not shock me. Although there is a demand it is mainly from the pet industry. With all of this being said we would still like to say that we would purchase from a US supplier if we could only find one. The last thing I would like to mention is this. We spent a good chunk of money to hire a consulting firm to go over to China and inspect the facility we were doing business with. I need to find some freeze dried food for a trip!** A: I won't even eat people food that was made in China. I shudder to think what the factory looks and smells like. There are probably no regulations or sanitation requirements there concerning pet food (not that they would be much concerned with them anyway). I wouldn't feed this to my cat either since it most likely has a percentage of freeze dried spoiled fish because I doubt they throw it out. They probably even cut it with local caught fish waste. Think about who you are dealing with here (china factory) and make up your own minds. **Q: Is this salmon processed in China?** A: As far as I can tell it is not -- nothing on the bag identifies made in or processed in China. CAT-Man-Doo Inc is located in Belleve, WA. **Q: Do the cubes still have the skin on them? My little 8 pound cats have problems eating the skins that are on the brand I currently use.** A: No there is no skin, just the dried salmon meat. The cubes are small enough that they don't have to be broken up and crumbs are limited.
