(If you want to get an idea of future episodes in the series.) *by N***E on April 24, 2016* The book is easy to read for the most part. It marks where things were translated and gives the full translation or description at the end of the chapters. I was interested in reading this, as most people will be, because I am a fan of Vikings on History Channel. I wanted to know more about the stories told about Ragnar and his sons out of interest and also to figure out where the show is going.I will try to avoid any spoilers here. If you are a fan and want to know what is ahead, it's worth the read, although the History Channel is able to take creative license in a good way because there are some conflicting stories about Ragnar and a lot of gaps in time that were not filled in. If you are familiar with the show and Vikings in general you know that there is no written history left by them during the Dark Ages.The information we have, and that was used to write this book is from several sources, including Christians who were raided by the Vikings, having a very biased view of them, oral tradition and stories handed down, etc. From the book and other sources that the people in the stories including Ragnar and his sons, although there are no written records by the during their time, there are records of their descendants after.It is interesting how warlike the culture is with scant resources in the Dark Ages with no written records, yet they were well ahead of their times, treating women more equally in some ways than other countries and cultures.It was worth the purchase and read to me. (I bought it on Kindle.) There are other books that have similar stories or are complimentary in the Saga Packs.
