Crafting with Alcohol Inks: Creative Projects for Colorful Art, Furniture, Fashion, Gifts and Holiday Decor

Lovely pictures, well written, easy to follow instructions, yet it is rather boring. I wanted to be excited about a few projects unfortunately most were to simple, repeating the same type of idea just presented in slightly different projects. I found augmenting it with some internet searching helped my intention of what direction I would do a few projects on after the intro pieces I planned. I will keep it for it's introduction basic how to use the inks on materials, building on the basics to get moderately in my own abilities parameters.

Though I’d made projects with ink before and I love crafting, I wasn’t familiar with alcohol inks before I read this book. After reading it, I’m sort of surprised that I hadn’t heard of them earlier! The projects in this book are easy and fun, and with the holidays fast approaching, I think it’s not a bad idea to consider whether Auntie Sue or Cousin Annie would like a colorful, handmade gift or some kind. I think the jewelry dish looked particularly pretty, or one of the several lamps that are described. I really appreciated the variety of projects, because sometimes crafting books can get stuck in a rut where you make the same kinds of things over and over again and then can’t figure out what to do with them. But with the ceramics and glass products described here, I can actually see myself using many of these. Especially the lamps—I already mentioned that I liked them, but now that I have my own apartment I realize how expensive cool lighting can be! These projects look like a great alternative to buying fancy lighting options.A couple of the projects might be difficult to do if you don’t do a lot of crafting or can’t get specialty supplies—namely, some of the wall art requires using and cutting wood, and the ornament project asks for an embossing machine. Surprisingly, the furniture projects all looked easy, though I have yet to try them myself. The one I’m most likely to try next, again given the upcoming holidays, is the Christmas ball ornament project, because Christmas ornaments are also shockingly expensive.Overall, this book was a great intro to the possibilities of crafting with alcohol inks, and I’m excited to try mimicking the look of more expensive, store-bought home furnishings on my own.

Okay, so I can't get over how many great ideas is in this book. Things I would have never thought to use alcohol inks on. This book has enough crafts to keep me busy through the next year!The instructions are detailed and straightforward, with clear, color pictures for each step of the process. Some of the crafts I've picked out to work on:Colorful Seashell Mobile, Galaxy Ombre Sneakers and Sketchy Floral Sneakers, Coaster Set, and the Marbled Note cards. I have a holiday party coming up and the theme is “Masquerade.” I was going to buy a mask, but looking at the technique Allison Murray includes in her book, I am willing to take the time to make a unique quality piece that will get a rave from everyone. And because I'm using alcohol inks, I can customize the mask to me as opposed the other way around.I am still relatively new to using alcohol inks, but the crafts in this book look so inviting and fun, any apprehension I may have goes away. Also, they are so many crafts for varying skill levels, this book can be used for years. I dont think I’ll be ready to decorate a chair any time soon, but I’ll have this book of my shelf whenever it’s time!

This book is amazing!!!! I love all the new and creative projects that came out of it. This is the perfect book to have at home, or to gift to a friend you know that also loves crafts. I love the step by step directions and visuals that come with this book - it made it easy to follow and as a result made my projects all come out beautifully. We got this book right before the holidays and it was perfect because we were able to make different style ornaments for our family and a few loved ones as well as completly custom gift tags! This book is everything you need to create thoughtful, beautiful and one-of-a kind items for yourself or to gift someone else. This book will absolutely bright your world and definitely spruce up those ordinary DIY home made gifts, we love DIY gifts for the holidays and this book helped us add some special touches!! If you haven't had a chance to play with alcohol inks, this is a great book to get your paintbrush wet with! I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for fun and new ways to use alocohol inks. HIghly recommended!!

I've done some art and crafting before, but I hadn't' heard of alcohol inks until quite recently. I bought a couple books and got started! This book does a lot of things right. I love the introduction, which is clear, concise, and helpful, and I was foaming at thew mouth to get started after reading it. The art products turn out really nice, and the organization of the book (home decor, furniture, wall-hangings, gifts, fashion, and holiday) makes it easy to find a craft for my mood. I was surprised I could make custom clothing, but alcohol ink sticks so well to whatever it's applied to that pretty much anything can be permanently dyed (for better or for worse!). I do wish this book had a few more pictures in it, and maybe a bit more 'serious' art, but overall I'm loving crafting with alcohol inks!

I had never heard of alcohol inks before I got this book as a gift, but since I've found them totally fascinating! This book explains exactly how to use them and how to get ahold of them. Best of all, this book seems to me to be the next natural progression from coloring book stress relief. I'm really excited to try out the Christmas ornament project! I've already tried painting a few pottery plates and bowls and it's surprisingly easy and fun. The startup costs of the different projects in this book might be a little bit challenging, but I think using Amazon and the after-Christmas sales would really make it doable. You could also give this to a friend who enjoys crafting, because chances are they aren't as familiar with alcohol inks either. You can create a lot of cool effects and can spruce up things you've already got lying around the house. Definitely recommend this for holiday fun.

Excellent book that has lots of new ideas for using alcohol inks and good descriptions of how to carry out the different crafts.

I guess my expectations were too large. I had hoped for some basic tutorials as well.
