It probably goes without saying, but I think if you tried to feed the mattress into the mattress pad with it fully extended, without inching it on, it would put too much stress on the zipper and it would break. I can see the mattress pad would have easily accommodated thicker foam too, such as two of these: Foam Sheet 3" x 30" X 72" , or I could have used a 2" piece and a 3" piece to make a 5" thick mattress, or added a thin layer of memory foam. The fabric is somewhat thin, but it didn’t tear while I was putting it on a foam mattress. But I was surprised that the zipper did not go all the way around the mattress, just zips at one end and about a foot down each side. It was a struggle to get it on my cot mattress.
