Review: Excellent - Delivered on time, great set of chiesels. Review: Better than expected for such a budget set. Hoops are nice and snug and easy to set, nice matte black coating on the blades, sharpen up really well, steel seems tempered ok. The decal/stickers are just paper that would fall off easy, I fixed this with a few layers of clear nail polish, they came up a treat. The white oak handles are finished well and have a coat of varnish on them. The thickness of the oak handles gets thicker for every chisel which is nice, but they do not get longer. The chisels are only 22cm long all up, small but nice in the hand to use for carving. They feel a bit like butt chisels in the hand. The lamination is a 2mm sheet, I measured it on all 3 chisels plus a 42mm one I bought separately, 2mm lamination on all, it does the job fine. I'd guess this is how they are able to cut costs and sell these so cheap. I definitely recommend a set based on the price and quality. Consider them more appropriate for paring and light chopping. These are very sharp, nicely ground and very inexpensive for the Japaneses style. I wouldn't recommend for hard use but they are fantastic in the shop for fine and detail work without the normally very high price. Personally I like them. **Q: What sizes are these chisels?** A: 24 mm = 15/16", 15 mm = 5/8", 9 mm = 3/8" **Q: Are these chisels made in Japan?** A: Yes they made in Japan **Q: What is the practical difference between the wood options here? (evergreen vs. white oak)** A: I wondered that too. I actually never heard of evergreen wood. But I bought a couple of these chisels about five years ago and have loved them ever since. I just bought a few more. The original ones have oak handles so I didn’t give the evergreen handles a thought. You want a tough handle in a chisel, of course, and if evergreen, whatever that is, is as hard as oak, then there is no practical difference in my view. I’ve got chisels and gouges with oak, maple and ash handles and they all perform the same, that is, they do not crack or splinter when struck with a mallet.
