I experienced no adverse side effects while on this stuff, and in about 3 days or so, I was able to partially correct my issue with insomnia. I should probably mention here that I have real clinically diagnosed insomnia which means I don't sleep at all for periods of 2 - 4 days at a time; with that said, the first evening dose of 200 mg's was more than enough to put me to sleep gently for about 3 -4 hours, I can't really recall exactly how long I was out but it sure was restful sleep. I might have awoke around 1 AM and stayed awake for a few hours before returning to sleep again. So already I was noticing great benefits from only my first day on these pills.My dosing schedule was something along these lines: 1 pill in the morning on an empty stomach, sometimes 1 pill was taken midday, and always at least 1 pill at night. The pills are measured at 100 mg each and I would take no more than 400 mg per day, but I was averaging about 3 per day with a starting body weight of 167 lbs. and a final weight of 159 lbs. I don't know why I lost weight because I was trying to gain weight, and I had even increased my meals from 3 per day to 5 per day, but again, I was eating all natural foods and drinking lots of water every day so that might have contributed to the weight loss.Moreover, after taking this 5-HTP supplement for nearly a month my generalized insomnia seems to have partly corrected itself because I'm now experiencing 4 - 7 hours of actual sleep each night which of course is a major relief to me. What I think really happened was that as my anxiety level went down over the course of a week or so, I naturally started sleeping better as a result. Even my internal biological clock that controls my day-night cycle managed to correct itself so that I automatically rise out of bed around 9 AM regardless of how I feel--which pleases me greatly because in the past I would just sleep until 2 PM until I felt well-rested and more than half the day would be wasted. I almost forgot to mention my noticeable mood change over the course of a month from unhappy to more-or-less feelings of contentment. That's also a big improvement for me because I've been in a state of mild depression for the past two years from certain events in my life.I'm probably going to buy another bottle of this product from Everpure Labs regardless of the fact that David, from their customer service department, has offered me a free bottle if I write a very positive review of the product. I made a point of waiting a whole month before I wrote this review because I wanted to provide people with my honest assessment of this product and I was totally fine with rating it less than 5 stars if it didn't meet my expectations--after all, it only costs about $17 for a bottle of 120 pills and that's really inexpensive for a 3 - 4 month supply of any kind of supplement, and if I rated it only 4 stars it wouldn't be that big of a deal not getting a free bottle of the stuff. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the entire experience from purchasing to using this supplement because it was hassle-free and the item arrived quickly. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Gives me a calm centered outlook, but decreases sex drive *by K***N on June 23, 2017* This 5HTP works exceptionally well for me. I definitely notice when I don't take it. When I take it, I gradually start to feel calmer each day. I've noticed that I have to take it for about 5-10 days before I really start noticing the effects on mood. The positive effects I notice with taking 5HTP is calming, but not tired. I'm able to handle outlandish stresses that pop up out of nowhere with ease.Generally the outlandish stresses are created by other people who stress out easily around you, so I'm then forced to take this pill because of those nut cases. If I don't take this, then those kinds of crazy stresses that pop up out of nowhere are handled by me with enormous calm, strong, unaffected ease. If I don't take this and there is a stress situation, then I don't handle it quite as effectively. I'm moodier and more angrily reactive and aggressive. With that respect, I'm sure those on the receiving end hope I take this as I have a cheerful composed attitude with it, and I'm assertive instead of aggressive.The downfall experienced taking 5HTP? And yes, there is one for me. Unfortunately, this kills my sex drive. Impotence or low libido is one of the side effects listed when taking this. Lucky me, I get to be the one that is negatively affected in that department whenever I take 5HTP. Perhaps some people don't care about that side effect, but I do enough that it forces me to stop taking this for periods of time. In fact, I've heard about an enormous amount of cases from people like me suffering from anxiety or depression who end up wanting to get off any kind of anti-depressant because of the lowered sex drive. That's sad that it effects that area negatively.Now I only take this when life has become unmanageable and my mood swings are off the charts. This helps maintain that and bring it to balance. The positive effects are noticeable on the first day of taking this and gradually grow stronger each day I'm taking the pill thereafter. when I stop taking it, my sex drive comes back after a day or so. The one plus to this negative side effect is that this pill seems to work instantly after the first day whether I take it or don't take it.Going more in depth, the reason for this sexual side effect is because 5HTP raises your serotonin levels. When your serotonin levels are high, then your sex drive decreases. This is for men, but not sure if it's the reverse for women or not. To raise your sex drive again, you must decrease the serotonin levels and raise your dopamine levels, but that means I should stop taking the 5HTP because it raises the serotonin and drops my sex drive.I'm still giving this 5 stars, because this 5HTP does do what it's advertised to do for me. It improves and stabilizes my mood, helps me sleep better through the night, and diminishes anxiety. It's not the products fault that I have sexual side effects from that as that's the 5HTP elevating the serotonin levels and dropping the sex drive. It's a catch 22. I can have a great sex drive, but be moody and unbearable, or I can have no sex drive and have a stable calming mood. It's unfortunate that the two can't just go hand in hand, because then I would take this product everyday for the rest of my life.I will try another another brand that is selling 5HTP as a 50 mg. capsule, as perhaps the 100 mg. is too strong for me. Unfortunately, this company seems to only make this as a 100 mg. Otherwise, I'll stick with this for emergency times in my life when it's needed. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The best 5HTP out there! *by D***K on October 23, 2014* EVERPURE 5HTP is the best 5HTP I have ever taken and I have tried many brands. The capsules are easy to swallow. The bottle is opaque which is great since light can affect some supplements. I don't know if 5HTP degrades in light but with an opaque bottle I don't have your worry about it. Better safe than sorry. It doesn't cause me an upset stomach, bloating or gas. It doesn't have any taste. HERE IS THE BEST PART...EVERPURE works! My doctor told me to take 100mg twice a day to reduce my anxiety, increase my feelings of wellbeing plus another 100mg at bedtime to help me fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. I don't know how but it doesn't make me sleepy during the day and I am not groggy in the morning. It does not prevent you from waking up if you have to go to the bathroom, check on a strange noise or your crying baby, etc. Fantastic, right?! Now as far as reducing my anxiety and increasing my feelings of wellbeing, EVERPURE 5HTP has helped me immensely.
