However, I didn’t spray on the joints where the legs are welded to legs and on rusted through. So really spray well at the joints. I have 2 more in my front yard which are the heron red crowned and within a week of being out they started rusting before I could get to store to buy more paint. So spray them well before putting them out. Also, there are different finishes, I sprayed a semi gloss and I would have preferred a less shiny finish. **Q: How stable are they when standing? Do they fall over easily? Are they heavy enough to withstand wind.** A: Hi! The cranes within wind very well!! I’ve had other cranes like these for many years and none have fallen over in strong wind!!! The Santa Ana’s can blow and they stand upright perfectly still!! **Q: how long before they start to rust out???** A: Noticed the rust before 2 weeks, but lost previous bird (different manuf) after 2 yrs to rust. Would suggest clearcoat for all metal decor. **Q: Do they scare away herons?** A: No they don't scare away Herons. However Geckos like to live inside them!
