In a crisscross pattern as to cover the whole area..It came out cleaner + softer, without a perfume smell. I will be using it in the other rooms with carpet. I have to say, I didn’t believe this could work! I used it on my area rug in my family room and it came out beautiful! Took out minor stains and smelled so good too! There is a liquid you can spray first which I didn’t know about prior, but it still worked great without it! Highly recommend for area rugs!
