Hat was not crushed and carefully laid on top. Mask is amazingly made! Thick almost leather type material. Looks great and sturdy. Face mask is a soft no scratchy material so can be worn all night. Either way it fits...Unlike some other reviews, I don't find it difficult to breathe in... HOWEVER, visibility is awful. My line of vision is something like 4" wide ( and not much up/down either ). Maybe after I stretch it out a bit, it will be a little better, but I suspect even then it will still be pretty awful...
