It's perfect for a 12 pack and ice and what I really like about it is the separate top compartment which is perfect for throwing in a few snacks especially those that might melt like a candy bar. I haven't tried it during the summer months yet so I don't know how long ice or ice packs will last but on a temperate day my ice packs lasted all day and didn't even really start to thaw. All the extra compartments on each side I have found to be very useful. Lots of space with a small footprint. For 20 bucks and under I find this cooler to be a great deal. The only negative I can think of is the shoulder strap has a plastic shoulder piece that kind of hurts the shoulder when the cooler is fully loaded.
