If anything it is difficult to cut through when installing pump hose. All the way I would make it. Review: I've had this skimmer for 2 seasons now and it has been perfect. survived last winter completely frozen no problem. I did put my 2" Pipe higher than the marked place on the side because I wanted to be able to completely drain the pipe before winter. I also used a 2" bulkhead for the pipe. Other than that installed as recommended and it is great. Pretty easy to level out as well. So not sure why but can’t seem to get a great seal.
