So they're a little cheaply built........but they were so cheap!
I installed 50+ of these in a remodel and replaced the halogens with LED bulbs (Triangle 6 watt dimmable). Every single person that has walked into our house has commented on how nice the lights are. These are very cheap, aesthetically pleasing and have the smallest footprint of anything I could find in it's price range (or anywhere near it).A few of the halogen bulbs didn't work, even right out of the box, like others have mentioned, but I don't care cause those things burn WAY too hot and look like crap compared to the LEDs. The lights were a little difficult to wire, just because of the size of the box but can't fault them for that. If they were any bigger they wouldn't have fit in the small space we crammed them in. The clips to pop the face/bulb in are tough to get right sometimes but I don't plan on having to change bulbs anytime soon so it's a one time hassle. One star removed for the above small gripes but I'd buy them again in a heartbeat. Heck, I've probably sold a bunch for them just letting people walk in and see ours.

Awesome Buy
I got these little lights last night, ran the romex, removed the old fluorescent fixture (where the farther light is now), and installed them in about 30 min in a suspended ceiling. As I had hoped, they are light enough to be supported by a standard 24" wide X 40" ish long ceiling tile without any reinforcement. The lights I got came with spring clips, some other kind of mounts, and a circle template for the can. I am very happy with these lights and will be ordering more to replace all of the old, ugly, and wasteful fluorescent fixtures in the basement. I need to find an IC and water resistant versions of these for the rest of the house. Keeping with the suggestions, I swapped out the halogen bulbs with the 2700K LED bulbs here: LOHAS LED Recessed Lighting, LED 6-Watt Dimmable Daylight White(5000K) Light Bulbs, 50W Equivalent GU10 LED Bulbs, 60 Beam Angle, Track Lighting You'll have to select the 2700K as the page defaults to the 5000K. The light put out by the bulbs look just like incandescent bulbs, and are much brighter than I expected, so happy. I haven't put in a dimmer switch yet, but they dim well in my range hood. These two items are definite good buys.

Great low profile bright lighting
I like these can lights because they are smaller around than typical can lights, which I feel take up way too much ceiling space. These are inconspicuous, and everyone who has seen them in our new master bedroom has commented on how great they look. The downside is that the bulbs burn out almost immediately. 2 of the 8 that we ordered have already burned out, within less than 3 weeks of being installed. I can only imagine that the rest will have to be replaced within the next couple months, though it sounds like LED bulbs are a better choice anyway, so I'll take the short life span as an opportunity to purchase better bulbs. In a 12x14 room, we have 6 of the cans, which is perfect. We put the other 2 in our hallway, which is also more than ample lighting. They can be put on dimmers, but make sure you get the correct dimmer switch, since incandescent dimmers are not appropriate for this fixture. I'll definitely be ordering more of these as our home remodel progresses. You can't beat the price, and we're thrilled with the esthetics and functionality.

Great Product or Great Rip Off. Buyer beware.
I gave this 5 stars because this products excels at poor design, poor implementation and poor customer service. Here are my top 3 problems. 1) The remodeling clips to attach the lights to the ceiling are weak, they break, and insufficient to secure the light. 2) Don't even bother contacting Altair Customer Service. They gave me the run around about replacing the broken clips. Gonna call me back with what it will cost. Really?!?!?! 3) The box at the top for wiring is way too small and attached with the tiniest screw. Don't lose it! 4) Lights are supplied with Halogen bulbs which get way too hot. Add the cost of replacing them with LED lights instead. 5) These lights have no UL approval rating. Understandable since they are such a bad design. And finally. I was lucky. I only bought 2 of them. The poor souls who bought a dozen or more. I feel sorry for them.

Great value for the cost
I ended up installing three of these in my ceiling for lighting up artwork. Installation was a bit tricky since I had to attach two armored cables to each light. The first set came damaged with the metal trims slightly bent. I noticed Amazon and they sent out a free replacement and was told to keep the bent ones or to donate them.Tip: disconnect the top electrical box and jam it up into the ceiling hole. With some finesse, you can then connect the can to the box with the help of a very short screwdriver. Once that trick was figured out the other two went in much quicker.Definitely pair with LED's since halogens are way too hot for these. My favorite for artwork are the Hyperikon MR16 2700k models after experimenting with over a half dozen different brands. They also allow the trim to be tilted another 10-15 degrees.

The Little Cans That Can
We have installed these cans on two contract jobs now, and can say that for their price point they cannot be beat. There is a caveat though, that being that we have not used them with Halogen lighting. While these do come with a halogen bulb, we have opted on each occasion to change it out for an LED equivalent. We are not big fans of halogen lighting for primarily safety and economy reasons. plus LED lighting has come such a long way and there are some pretty good bulbs out there now...but I digress.Installation of these little cans is a snap...drill a 3" diameter hole, twist it in, and secure with two simple clips (provided) into the drywall. These cans are suitable for installation in 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8" thick wallboard. One note to make things a little simpler for you, bring all wiring through one knockout if you want the can to fit through the hole after being wired.Pros:- Compact can that is an exceptional platform for LED lighting- Easy to install...VERY easy- Gimbaled lens- Nice finishCons:- None
