Also used a seal puller, but honestly, a chisel and a screwdriver (dull) are all you need. Cannot just pull it out with a seal puller, you have to crush a side with a chisel. I used a small 4 inch long chisel - worked like a charm and easy to do. To put the new one in I tried using the wheel bearing socket which is 35mm and fits the thick metal back of the seal very well. I could not seat it well however, one side was always in and the other out. I ended up tapping the new bearing using the 35mm socket very lightly, just to get it started, then I used the flat end of a 1/2" extension rod and tapped it in gently going around the edge in a circle. Saw this method in a youtube video from Asia. Low tech worked really well! Took a bit of time but seal is perfect. There is no "cap" the whole thing is the seal including the metal ring. Use a piece of pipe the same diameter as the outer ring of the seal to tap it in place. **Q: dose this work on the driver side??** A: 2001 pontiac grand prix. Driver side seal is different the the passenger side. Passenger side will not work with drivers side. **Q: Is this really for the passenger side i see 2 different answers but the description say right side** A: Our documentation shows that we used it in our fleet as "Seal Axle Left" indicating driver's side usage/fitment. **Q: Is this the seal which goes on the end of the axle, or the transmission seal?
