Once you remove the cylinder from the base there's a chance that the actual piston that's connected to the bottom of the chair will still be attached, from there you would hit the piston from the side with a downward force and then the underside with the upward force and that will loosen the friction lock and it will pull right out. Once you get that to reinstall the new piston is easy drop the bottom into the wheel section of the chair pull off the access cap for the piston and put your old chair back on the new piston and carefully sit on the chair and you have created the friction lock and it is ready to go.
