They work well with kitchen towels and thin terry towels since I can get the loop snapped close to the edge and the towels are thin. The snaps aren't big enough to go through thick terry towels but they work great for the kitchen and remained intact after washing. The loops aren't big enough to go over my round kitchen cabinet/drawer knobs so I hook them on S hooks. I'm sure in the local shops in the UK or Germany they're probably more reasonably priced. The snaps do hold tight, some are difficult to snap, they're SO tight! The little plastic tool for piercing the dish towel is strong & effective, I'll keep it on hand on the off chance I may make my own.
