Superb performance and color retention. Exclusive OP enhanced oil priming. As an oil colorist it is important to work on oil primed surfaces and not universal primed surfaces. The reason is that universal primed surfaces are semi-absorbent. Gesso is absorbent even if it is plate smooth. The paint does not get absorbed as much and sits on the surface more, making it easy to blend and manipulate. Granted, it is not highly absorbent but the fact remains that some oil will get into the primer and flatten the image. You can get around this by using an under-painting oil ground on top of the surface of a universal ground canvas but this is very time consuming and expensive. Unlike universal ground, our oil Priming chemically bonds with the oil paint and is non-absorbent allowing the paint to sit up on the surface with the correct refraction quality of the oil binder. A smoother surface than cotton and tends not to show under the paint **Q: Are oil pastels comparable to this product?** A: This Centurian product is a most cost effective support for oil primed linen to be used mainly with oil paint mediums. I’ve never thought of these panels for pastel!!! **Q: Does this canvas help oil paint glide on smoothly? I'm a newbie and the current canvas is linen and it's giving me problems.** A: Artists have personal preferences but oil primed panels don’t absorb as much as acrylic prime so there is less sinking in of the paint into the surface and less drag. I like to add a layer of transparent thin paint for an overall tone to the panel before painting. It definitely makes the next layer smoother to apply and removes the stark whiteness that can make values hard to evaluate. It also provides harmony to the color values. Different linens have slicker surface or lots of tooth to the surface, I find Centurian’s tooth is just right for me. **Q: Are these mdf boards peoduced with formaldehyde ? I am asking because of concerns with voc and also longenvity** A: To the best of my knowledge they are not.
