So I haven’t had to replace it yet and it has been a couple of months. So i would say it depends on how you are using it. **Q: Can this be put in the dishwasher?** A: We have several and they go through a steam cycle almost weekly in our dishwasher. We have several different items that we do at the same time. I have also boiled when a dishwasher isn't available **Q: Does it lather well like a loofah?** A: I think it lathers just as nicely and it doesn’t carry that musty smell. It’s easy to use and clean. Plus it drys fast and I love the handle for holding onto and it hangs nicely and doesn’t take up much room. I love this way more than I love those puffy loofahs. It’s 100% worth it imo and you get 2 for a great deal. I gave my second one to my autistic son and he is loving it. It’s also gentle yet exfoliating and it’s like a nice massage in the shower or bath.
