There seemed to be no breaking in period. They were comfortable out of the box and seemed to get more and more comfortable as they were worn. The leather is soft and conformed to the shape of my son's feet. They are also sturdy. He runs and plays all day in them and they survive the whole school year. I only had to get rid of them because he outgrew them. I would have given these shoes five stars except for the fact that they scuff extremely easily. After a very short time, the leather is scuffed so badly that some parts (especially at the toes) look white. Of course, it's very easy to fix with some Kiwi shoe cleaner but still, it would have been better if they didn't scuff so easily. Apart from that, this is a great shoe that is in a classic style, very comfortable, durable and at a great price.
